Leafs looking to add Talbot?

It looks that way. And perhaps even ahead of time, as we’re only a few days away from July 1st and free agency.

From Nick Kypreos at Sportsnet;

I hear #Leafs are working on trading for #Penguins Max Talbot rights prior to waiting July 1st when he becomes a UFA.

To which Darren Dreger at TSN responded;

Leafs talked earlier with Pens about Talbot’s neg rights, but I’m told they’re now out of the mix. Good player. Will make next team better

Which, to me, basically translates into the Leafs making a real effort to sign this guy on Friday. Perhaps they end up negotiating to land his rights before then, but if not you can still be sure Burke is looking to fill out a potential third line of Bozak, Armstrong and Talbot.

With the Leafs’ PK  in shambles over the past couple of seasons, Talbot brings to the table a real ability to get it done shorthanded. He usually floats around the 10 goal, 12-15 assist area and is seen by many as a guy who can bring a lot of character to the dressing room.

The question now remains what type of salary he’ll be looking for, and if other suitors end up driving up the price of this bottom six player.

Stay tuned

    If you have ever noticed how Stamkos seems to get hot when Vinny gets back into the line up? Definitely not a coincidence.

    sather is a weasel. what happens in 4 or 5 years time if Richards starts to slip. Buy him out or send him to the minors for the latest flavour of the week for him.

    I think next year kadri will be a better NHL player then talbot, therefore theres no room for talbot or he plays the forth line

    He can be pressured though. Does Tampa have the money to pay that salary?

    That’s what I mean. Can they even afford to pay Vinny’s salary. Add another 9 million or so on for Stamkos. Doesn’t seem likely paying almost 20 million to two players

    Kadri may be a better NHL player, but Talbot is a better role player, such as killing penalties which Kadri doesn’t do.

    This may be the ‘jilted suitor’ in me talking, but if a guy like Richards wants to go to the Rangers over us, a team that clearly has no issue with throwing out ridiculous contracts, and then bury (Redden), sucker another team into taking (Gomez), or force them into buyouts (Drury), then fuck him.

    (Of course we don’t know his decision yet, but assuming) We don’t want that type of player.

    Yeah, I really don’t understand why players continue to sign there. I guess the money/lifestyle is just too good to pass up.

    oh for sure, and they made it to the conference finals. Feel bad for the team a little bit sometimes but maybe they should have never put one hockey team in a market that averages 20 Celsius,
