Brad Richards is a Ranger

It comes as no real surprise to be passing along this information; Brad Richards will become a New York Ranger, after agreeing to a 9 year 60 million dollar deal.

The news came from Andy Strickland out of St Louis first, and was later confirmed by Darren Dreger of TSN.

Personally, I’m relieved that the Leafs didn’t get into this sort of contract. The Rangers will have a 6.7 million dollar cap hit on the books for a forty year old Richards, meaning you’ll probably see this guy in the minors in a few years.

Dreger has since reported that the Calgary Flames offered up 65 million over nine years, but Richards took the cut to head to New York. The city, and the coach obviously had a lot to do with his decision.

Good on Burke and co. for not committing to this thing too much and letting things get out of hand.

The Leafs will surely look to trade in the coming weeks to address their primary need; a top line center.

Really, Connolly? Glad to hear Nonis say they’re going to take the next 35-60 days to make this team better because that he’s not what I was thinking. Luckily when Connolly can be stuck on LTIR when he gets hurt again :P Would like to see more “meat” on our top line center. Leaves a bad taste in my mouth when I say Connolly is our “number 1 center”. Should have just stayed pat.

I get that you don’t like Connolly, but barring injuries he helps our team.

Reimer has proven more than Schneider but in the hockey world Schneider is more regarded as a can’t miss. Reimer people are still amazed at what he was able to do and don’t believe he can do it again. He might a slight fall off this year, but I don’t think it will be catastrophic.
    .
Myself, I like both goalies. I have always maintained that Reimer was going to be a star in the NHL. I said he should have been our starter out of camp last year and was ecstatic the day he was drafted. Reimer will always continue to make people look bad and make me look good. :)

Hes not, hes a top 6 center. You do realize if healthy his numbers are almost identical to Richards, except connelly knows how to play defence

Of course he does he’s American. No Canadian apparently want’s to stay here, anymore. But american’s see it as some kind of refuge for them. lol
    .
That’s a lot of money though. He better be worth it.

Gagne to LAK. So that’s two signings by teams in on Richards in the last hour.
