Zigomanis signs one-year deal with Maple Leafs

Mike Zigomanis and the Toronto Maple Leafs have come to terms on a one-year contract.

From MapleLeafs.com:

Zigomanis, 30, collected one assist and four penalty minutes in eight games with the Maple Leafs in 2010-11. The Toronto, Ontario native also appeared in 64 games with the Toronto Marlies of the American Hockey League last season, leading the team in assists (33) and points (47), while adding 14 goals and 66 penalty minutes

CapGeek has it as a two-way deal, with Zigomanis’ NHL cap hit at 650K, while he’ll command 300K in the AHL (glove tap to @draglikepull for pointing this out.)

Zigomanis is mostly known for his ability to kill penalties, and win faceoffs – he fits nicely on the Leafs fourth line if he manages to see much time with the big club this upcoming season.

    yes the second injured payer being traded. Fraser requiring surgery plus infection and cysts that were not disclosed.

    I still don;t know what Edmonton was thinking or how they coudl allow that to happen…they deserve to be penalized large!!

    I have no belief that they would, they need the scoring and he has a low cap hit. He is not going anywhere – end of story.

    Diggin the Ziggy signing. Cherry was behind him big time during the year. Likely won’t crack the starting lineup with the big team…but if he’s a PK specialist, and he can contribute offensively occasionally…AND, he’s got a cup ring…then why the heck can’t he get a legitimate shot at our 4th line? Would be a good story to see him get in there. Heck, with Dupuis at 4th line, and maybe Ziggy as the 3rd line C, maybe Bozak could use a bit of seasoning with the Marlies. Just an option if Bozak starts off the season out of sorts.
