The Boyce is back in town

To put a close to the story from this morning, Darryl Boyce has reportedly re-signed with the Maple Leafs for one year.

From the MapleLeafs.com Press Release:

The Toronto Maple Leafs announced Thursday that the hockey club has signed forward Darryl Boyce to a one year contract.

Boyce, 27, played in 46 games for the Maple Leafs in 2010-11 and collected five goals and eight assists with 33 penalty minutes. His plus/minus mark (+8) was second on the team. He was an ‘even or plus’ in 36 of the 46 games played this past season.

An unrestricted free agent, Boyce was looking to have his future determined by week’s end. However, it was uncertain as to whether he would remain in Toronto or seek a different situation, or if  the Leafs even had him in their plans at all. Clearly they do, for at least one more year.

From James Mirtle at the Globe and Mail;

@mirtle: Boyce’s new deal with the Leafs is two-way. He’ll get $700,000 in the NHL and $105,000 in the minors.

** I was extremely close to naming this post “The Boyce is back in town” … couldn’t go through with it

Alright, let’s go with it.

    Got to give Lindros some credit for that.

    A good scrap. Considering how big/tight Lindros’ equipment is compared to McSorley’s.

    I’m just saying that I don’t see a lot of flaws in his defensive game as it is, his offense needs work but I saw some pretty sweet offense out of him last year and I’m hoping he gets better.

    Schenn and Stevens are not alike,Schenn will hit a guy and put him on the seat of his pants,Steven’s knocked people out of games,he was way more intense and enjoyed annialating the opposition.Schenn’s good and he’s a good guy,Steven’s played like he was in a war.

    Domi wanted to get to him. The linesman would have none of that. Sometimes people are quick to forget how big and strong linesman are. Remember these are the guys who pull back two 250 pound heavyweights going toe-to-toe. If the linesman really doesn’t want Domi getting to Stevens, Domi isn’t. Simple as that.

    Hmmm…ok. It looked to me like Domi was doing the “let me at ‘em” dance…but not really. Regardless, that was an old Scott Stevens, probably 10 years removed from his last fight. My issue earlier was when someone crazily compared Schenn’s progress to that of Scott Stevens. I just think it’s ridiculous, and apparently that means I want to trade him.

    He had 3 fights that year and 5 the next. Domi was only 5 years younger. Whatever, doesn’t really matter. I agree with you, Schenn is not a Stevens comparable. Possibly 10-15 years from now he could be a hard-nosed steady Dman like Stevens became, but for now they are nothing alike, especially Stevens until his 30s.

    Forgot to mention, Scott Stevens is from Kitchener. Rangers alumnus.

    I thought NHL Centre Ice was close to $50? 48 or something? I don’t remember. I guess it might vary depending on location, etc.
