Thursday Mashup: Callahan locked up

I could try to populate this space with filler about unimportant hockey news, or speculation over Luke Schenn that we’ve all discussed for four trillion hours. But I’ll save us all from the boredom and keep this short.

Ryan Callahan re-signed with the Rangers yesterday, avoiding arbitration by agreeing to a three year term to stay in New York. With only Shea Weber and Zach Parise remaining as important names to head to arbitration (they surely save the best for last), we all get the sense that the offseason is winding down – and it is.

We’re a couple days from August, which puts us about a month out from hockey really kicking into gear again. Hold tight folks, we’re only a few Thursday Mashups away from training camp.

While there’s other good tunes, I sometimes throw him on just to listen to “Look at You, Look at Me”. Enjoy the guitar work.

Yeah I bought his first 5 albums or so before taking a break, but also bought others including Joe’s Garage on vinyl, Hot Rats and even some classical stuff he wrote. Still enjoy Joe’s Garage, especially “Joe’s Garage”, “Why Does it Hurt When I Pee?”, and “Lucille (Has Messed Up My Mind)”.

It always bugs me a little when people pick on Stellik for the Kordic trade; it’s too easy, especially in hind sight. Kordic at the time was one of the baddest Mofo’s in the NHL and I was never that impressed with Courtnall…fast soft player who needed a long time just to become slightly better then average. I think it was a bold move for a young GM that back fired because of Kordic’s demons.

I remember seeing that today and thinking, man you can’t count that one…he came here learned all he could from Plante and then decided he wanted to go back to Phili. Plante was like the Yoda of goalies in those days and Bernie was like a sponge. He was already good but Plante helped him to become great. Yeah it was hard to watch him take that talent out of town.
