Morning Mashup: Lombardi to return in time for camp

The Sporting News reports that Matthew Lombardi will return to the ice for the Leafs‘ training camp in September. Brian Burke is quoted in the article: “”He (Lombardi) says he is going be at training camp, and our guys believe he will.”

This is promising, yet still uncertain news for Leaf fans. Lombardi was originally expected to be placed on the long term injured reserve while rehabbing from a concussion suffered after only two games last season. An escalated recovery has paved the way for Lombardi to compete for a roster spot from day one, and if he show no ill effects of the injury, play a potentially instrumental role down the middle.

However, he is unlikely to immediately return to his former self, at least in the short term, so there will be a period of adjustment to acclimate with the rigors of the game. “It’s too soon to tell,” Burke told Sun Media. “As we always do with head injuries, we’ll err on the side of caution.” It doesn’t sound like Lombardi will be rushed to play if he doesn’t feel up to game action, but that he’ll be on the ice for camp is promising news for the Leafs’ depth nonetheless.

    I have seen HockeyBuzz, so if this Leafs World is worse than I don’t think I would like it either ;)

    Have you ever seen that show Cake Boss? My wife watches it sometimes and I am always drawn toward the TV because the cakes look so damn good. I want to try some of those cakes so badly.

    Now I’m hungry. Damn you Burtonboy. Why did you have to mention cake?

    I don’t watch a whole lot of TV Gunner, jus hockey during the winter. But my fav is the Red Velvet cake

    That stuff is good. PC has a red velvet cheesecake. Also a good choice.

    If the Leafs make the playoffs I will buy one and celebrate. Maybe two actually.

    Hockeybuzz is tame compared to this and its the official Leafs site. I would go so far to say TSN boards is more complimentary then some of the so called leaf fans on that site .

    I have looked at the comments at TSN before and was blown away by the stupidity. Wow. I can’t imagine worse.

    THN predicted them in 11th place.

    And they also predicted the Leafs in 10th. The Leafs hate was evident throughout their piece even if the place they put them could be where we end up. But one thing that infuriated me was the prospects list. For some like Gardiner it was just “good skater with a decent wrist shot”, and then for a guy on the Islanders who I have never heard of but seemed to be a similar defenseman play-wise was “blinding speed and a great shot”. Really? All of the Leafs prospects had just mediocre sounding descriptions or had something negative about them. Leafs hate, it’s everywhere.

    Army gives the third line the toughness it needs. Sticking Rosehill anywhere other than the fourth line would hurt the team, IMO

    He better not be. It’s time for him to learn at the NHL level. If that comes at the expense of somebody like Bozak or Lombardi or Dupuis then so be it. He’s the future…they aren’t.

    Burke took alot of heat for keeping Bobby Ryan in the minors longer then most thought he needed to be; that turned out pretty good didn’t it?

    I wouldn’t hold Burke to a comment he made 3 years ago when this team didn’t have even enough talent to fill out a top 6. Things are different now, if we have the talent to roll 3 scoring lines and one crash/bash line we will.
