Not too long now friends. Every day it’s starting to feel more and more like hockey is just around the corner.

Before you know it, we’ll all be lacing up for our weekly beer league game and talking NHL hockey, probably saying things along the lines of “Stamkos is on another level” or, hopefully “Reimer is unbeatable lately.”

Now, I’m quite aware that many people play hockey through the summer, but it obviously isn’t the same – hockey consumes us in the winter months.

Many of the Leafs have now begun working out the kinks in preparation for training camp. They’re shaking off rust, kicking into gear, whatever you want to call it. Lance Hornby of the Sun has more on the team, and more specifically, Nazem Kadri hitting the ice this week:

Not yet 21, Kadri looks a lot more fit for this season. He’ll be skipping the rookie camp in Oshawa next month and going right to the main camp.

“This off-season wasn’t about (growing) for me, it was about leaning out and getting stronger and I think I accomplished both. I feel great and I’m really excited. I know I’m ready to go.”

As a Leafs fan, you love to hear those types of things from the youngster. Again we’ll wait and see if he can deliver, but it seems like he’s definitely one focused individual and I doubt that will change any time soon. Good stuff.

Wade is one of my favorite leafs ever. I ran into him on the street when I was 17. That day, I became a man…

NHL Center Ice is the best way to go here in the deep south. Bad news is you don’t get the playoffs in the season package, and you know that’s where the Boys are headed.

Personally I love this idea. I hope they implement it immediately.

This may sound a little odd, but I don’t think it’s enough to include the bear hug alone. The league needs to further disincentivize end boards collisions with misconducts and/or heavy fines if they REALLY want to cut these types of hits out from the game. But with the cba about to expire I’m sure the NHL doesn’t want to rock the boat too much with the players.
Myself, I don’t want to change the game much. There’s enough scoring for me (not enough for the leafs, yet) in the game. I think some athletes could take a more proactive step in ensuring their and others safety on the ice. Mouth guards, and don’t just effing chew on them Kris, wear them. Protect your eyes, feet etc. There’s equipment for those willing to wear it. A final thought? Maybe the Matt cookes and cam janssens of the world need to curb that killer instinct. Show some compassion for the quality of human life beyond the game in the flash of time it can take to lay a career changing hit. Ye know what? That’s probably asking too much of any group of people, let alone hockey players.

Michael, they could making icing so much safer but chose not to, This really annoys me.
