Tim Connolly is set to face his former team of ten years when the Leafs square off against QEW rivals the Buffalo Sabres in their fourth game of preseason.

The Leafs’ new first line center has had an inauspicious start to his Leaf career in training camp and will certainly have all eyes on him for tonight’s game (7pm, LeafsTV). A lack of familiarity with his line-mates, Phil Kessel and Joffrey Lupul, won’t stop pundits questioning his ability to center Toronto’s top line for this upcoming season.

While that will certainly be the story line for the game, there are many more important decisions that the Toronto Maple Leafs head office will have to make in the next few days as they whittle the pre-season roster down to the last few hopefuls. As it stands, Jake Gardiner, Matt Frattin, Joe Colborne, Kenny Ryan, Jesse Blacker, Luca Caputi, Joey Crabb, Jerry D’amigo are among the notable players still vying for a spot on the big club’s roster.

Connolly isn’t returning home at all, as the game is in Toronto and there is a good chance he won’t be in the lineup tommorow night.

I believe Wilson already stated that he is playing more vets tonight, a weaker roster on the road and Connolly will not make the trip to Buffalo.

According to the link on the Leafs site, I got the first three lines right (pretty obvious) and the fourth line will be Crabb/Boyce/Orr.

Looks like the Sabres will ice a relatively competitive team:

    Goalies: Ryan Miller, Drew MacIntyre

Defence: Jordan Leopold, Mike Weber, Christian Ehrhoff, Marc-Andre Gragnani, T.J. Brennan, Brayden McNabb

Forwards: Cody McCormick, Derek Roy, Colin Stuart, Michael Ryan, Drew Stafford, Brad Boyes, Thomas Vanek, Paul Gaustad, Jason Pominville, Patrick Kaleta, Matt Ellis, Nathan Gerbe, Tyler Ennis, Corey Tropp, Marcus Foligno

I agree, though its way too early to be putting this much pressure on him. He’s a gifted player and it will take a while for him to click with Kess and Lupes.

It’s Kadri’s position to lose. He looks like a lock unless he regresses or, if Matt Frattin keeps playing better and better (or both).
