Tim Connolly is set to face his former team of ten years when the Leafs square off against QEW rivals the Buffalo Sabres in their fourth game of preseason.

The Leafs’ new first line center has had an inauspicious start to his Leaf career in training camp and will certainly have all eyes on him for tonight’s game (7pm, LeafsTV). A lack of familiarity with his line-mates, Phil Kessel and Joffrey Lupul, won’t stop pundits questioning his ability to center Toronto’s top line for this upcoming season.

While that will certainly be the story line for the game, there are many more important decisions that the Toronto Maple Leafs head office will have to make in the next few days as they whittle the pre-season roster down to the last few hopefuls. As it stands, Jake Gardiner, Matt Frattin, Joe Colborne, Kenny Ryan, Jesse Blacker, Luca Caputi, Joey Crabb, Jerry D’amigo are among the notable players still vying for a spot on the big club’s roster.

The only players missing from the lineup tonight are Armstrong and maybe Kadri.
I hope they give Scriver the whole game either tonight or tomorrow.

E Staal is due something like 10M this year or next. We do have a wealth of prospects close to ready. By the TDL it could be interesting to see where things stand. I am sure Burke will be careful and at the same time aggressive.

I kinda disagree. Scrivens is a good story and all but unless we are prepared to walk away from Gus we need to give him the playing time. As I understand it, if Gus was sent to the A we’d lose him. Maybe I am wrong about that…

Nope you’re correct.. gus would have to pass through waivers and he’d be snatched up in heartbeat.

i wouldnt mind spezza but it totally depends what the asking price is. A first rounder? im down with that, take a gamble. However if they want 1st kadri plus we can tell them to go fuck themselves were not trading a package liek that for a guy that laughs like a 2 year old girl

Ya he always had some talent. Never really aggressive enough though… I grew up around him. Haven’t seen him in a good year or two, but back in the day I always thought he had the talent to do something with it, but rarely got to see him play. Last I heard he was playing for Guelph University.. I could be wrong though

I understand the circumstances, and it is unfortunate. I wouldn’t say that it is gauranteed that Gus would be picked off waivers. If he is that desirable we should be able to trade. But regardless I for one would be willing to do it if Scrivens is the clear best choice. I would like to see Gus do well, but I just haven’t seen it.

I believe Gus will start the season with the Leafs, but if he falters or Scrivens really looks good in the AHL Burke will make a move to get him here. Can’t find the link, but recently Burke did say he would make room for young players who deserve to play with the big team.

weighing in on Spezza, I’d be all over it, if we didn’t pay up the ass. He’s a good player, and he’s really matured over the years. He hasn’t played with a good winger in a really long time, I think if he got Kessel/Lupul or Kessel/Kadri he could really go back to those 90-100 point seasons.
