The Marlies have been faring just fine as of late without top scorers Joe Colborne and Joey Crabb. Your weekly release from the Marlies:

“The Marlies went 3-0-0-0 in their three games last week. They opened their week with a 2-1 victory over the Americans in Rochester on Friday night. Jerry D’Amigo scored the gamewinning goal with 2:28 remaining in regulation time while shorthanded. Greg Scott finished the game with a goal and a helper; while Mark Owuya made 26 saves for first star honours.

On Saturday, the Marlies beat the Amerks for the second straight day, 3-2.
Simon Gysbers lead the way with three points (one goal, two assists). Mike Zigomanis netted the game-winning goal late in the second period. Owuya made 32 saves for his second straight victory.

Toronto completed the weekend sweep with a 4-3 win over Peoria. Josh Engel’s highlight reel goal held up to be the game-winning tally. Marcel Mueller and Nazem Kadri both finished with twopoint games in the win over the Rivermen.

Typical Burke trade, you can shear a sheep several times but only skin him once.

The thing is you can do that for most GM’s. They get lucky sometimes…then they get unlucky.

People are eager to throw roses at Ken Holland’s feet, when it was complete luck that landed him Lidstrom and Datsyuk.

Boston’s biggest stroke of luck was finding a goalie who somehow managed to become an elite goalie at 34.

I always laugh at the “great scouting” from Detroit too. After thinking about it, if I knew there was a guy like Datsyuk in a draft but wasn’t supposed to go until the 6th round I dont think I would be able to wait to pick him. I’d have to think to myself “another scout has had to notice this guy, better get him while I can” But instead they picked 6 guys (2 in the 2nd) that they thought were better than him. They got lucky.

Has anyone wached Owuya with the Marlies? I heard his style compared to Tim Thomas when he signed. Which at the very least is entertaining.

Thomas does not have a “style”. He just stops the puck. If he can do it anywhere nearly as good, he’ll be a pleasant surprise.

What’s with the schedule maker for the NHL. Is he on crack? 13 games last night and nothing tonight. What’s with that?

They probably didn’t want to compete with the football south of the border, but last time I checked there were 7 Canadian teams. That’s Buttman’s influence no doubt.
