Over the weekend, the Marlies swept a back-to-back against the first-placed Eastern Conference team, the St. John’s IceCaps. They now sit first in the North Division with  27 points and a 12-5-2-1 record. With Joe Colborne and Joey Crabb making positive contributions with the big club, the likes of Nazem Kadri, Marcel Mueller and Mike Zigomanis have stepped up and filled the offensive void. Meanwhile, Mark Owuya and Jussi Rynnas continue to perform well between the pipes in Ben Scrivens‘ absence. The Maple Leafs lead the Northeast, the Marlies lead their division, and the quality organizational depth Brian Burke and his management team have assembled is shining through as we approach December. It’s a good time to be a Toronto hockey fan. Your weekly Marlies release:

“The Marlies went 2-0-0-0 in their two games last weekend. Jeff Finger scored the overtime winner with 29 seconds remaining in regulation time on Friday night to lift the Marlies past the IceCaps, 4-3. Nazem Kadri factored in on each of the Marlies goals, registering four points (two goals, two assists); while Mark Owuya won his third straight game, making 29 saves. The Marlies power play clicked twice, with Mike Zigomanis recording assists on both of the man-advantage tallies.

On Saturday, the Marlies dropped St. John’s, 6-3. Toronto’s three goal second period propelled them past the IceCaps for the second straight night. Ryan Hamilton was named the game’s first star, finishing with a goal and two assists. Finger, Darryl Boyce and Marcel Mueller also registered multi-point games in the win. Jussi Rynnas made 25 stops for his third consecutive win between the pipes.

- The Marlies are 9-0-0-0 when leading after 40 minutes.

- The Marlies are the only team remaining in the AHL without a home regulation loss. Toronto is 6-0-1-0 at Ricoh Coliseum this season.

Upcoming Opponents:

The Marlies play the Grand Rapids Griffins twice this week. On Tuesday night the two clubs meet in Toronto for the first time this season. Grand Rapids has lost two straight, and have only won three of their past 10.

On Saturday the Marlies host the Houston Aeros at Ricoh Coliseum for a 3pm puck-drop. Toronto defeated the Aeros 6-2 three weeks ago in Houston. Marcel Mueller recorded three assists; while Mark Owuya won his first pro/AHL game in his first career start.

The Marlies host the St. John’s IceCaps on Sunday at 1pm. Toronto just won back-to-back games against the IceCaps last weekend. Marco Rosa notched four points against Toronto in the two losses.

I think youu could add Bozak and Colborne as 2nd line centers along with Liles and Franson as Top 4 defenders.

I think Schenn is untouchable, so I didn’t include him.

Caps could only muster 19 shots on goal with a new coach. Really lit a fire under them, evidently.

I’d rather Grabovski, Connolly, Komisarek and Gus for Getzlaf…

I’d pass on Ryan if the price is as high as stated.

Regarding B Ryan I think the Leafs have a good match to be a trading partner with the Ducks. The question is: Why the Ducks are moving him? I am sure Burke is in the know. Maybe the Ducks just feel he is the best chip to acquire three good players for one very good player, I don’t know….but maybe they feel he is a problem, or maybe he is over rated. Anyway, Burke should know. If all is good with Ryan I expect Burke will make a move even if the cost is Schenn, Kadri, and Bozak. But Burke will only do that if he has confidence in Ryans character.

Burke WILL NOT trade Schenn. And I’m with the minority, Ryan will cost too much to be an effective upgrade UNLESS he can play center and I just don’t see it. It’s Getzlaf or nothing, and the Leafs can offer a lot.

Getzlaf could get them Kadri, Grabo, 1st and Gunner/Aulie. They could even through in a salary dump if it helps them out any. I think they will find out Ryan’s not worth what some are eluding too.

Yeah, if Getlaf were available, I’d DEFINITELY be willing to sacrifice to get him!

    I’d be willing to do:

    Grabo, Aulie, Gus, Blacker, 2nd

    FOR

    Getzlaf,

… don’t have a clue if this would get it done, but it gives them a replacement centre for this year for Getzlaf, as well as a D-man who can play now (Aulie) as well as a top D prospect (Blacker) a solid backup and a 2nd rounder in a deep draft.

There is no price outside of Kessel, Phaneuf, Schenn, Reimer, Colborne, and Lupul that I wouldn’t pay for Getz.

Yes I tend to agree that something isn’t quite right with Ryan. But Burke would know. If Burke really likes his character we might overpay some. If Getzlaf were available I definitely think we make a major swing…but the Ducks won’t move Getzlaf.
