The Toronto Maple Leafs had their three-game winning streak against Buffalo snapped by a 4 point guy named Thomas Vanek. In Buffalo, which comes as no surprise. We tend to not do well in Buffalo. Some links after the GiT.
– The Leafs are 16-12-3 and things could be worse.
– James Reimer made 24 saves in his fourth straight start, but even he was critical of his performance yesterday night. When your team scores four goals for you, you’ve got to be better in net. I do admit his recent form hasn’t exactly been stellar, but he owned up to it and I’m confident he’ll improve as the season progresses.
– Joffrey Lupul keeps on producing. The guy has been a real steal for us and I love the fact his NHL skillset finally churns out according results. He always had it, it was just staying injury free and playing in an environment that gives him a chance to thrive.
– Tyler Ennis is one slippery Sabre. He’s also a powerplay producing dude. The three Ss. Small, skilled and sassy. The penalty came after Dion was put in the box for boarding Zach Kassian into the boards from behind.
– Speaking of Dion, our captain did score a powerplay goal, which kept our powerplay going. As things stand now we’re third in the league in PP% with 21.6%. That was one mean bomb from the point.
– Nikolai Kulemin finally scored, it only took a penalty shot for him to do so. Regardless, I basically did a little dance when he put that in.
– Wilson thought we took too many penalties in the last couple of games. I would agree, penalty killing is one thing but if you take this many penalties it’s going to bite you no matter how good your penalty killing is. In our case, it bites us like a fat man bites cake. Hard.
– I know it was a powerplay goal but the coverage on Drew Stafford’s goal really irked me. Come to think of it, the turnover to Kassian for the Vanek goal wasn’t heartwarming either. Luke I’m not your father but come on… Gardiner‘s young, he’ll learn.
– It was an away game against the Sabres, what did you expect? Too many mistakes in this one.
