Phaneuf preserves NHL All Star Fan Voting’s remaining shred of dignity

In what proves the process is a huge joke, Daniel Alfredsson led fan balloting for the 2012 All Star selection followed by Jason Spezza and Milan Michalek, meaning Kessel and Lupul will have to selected by the League. Democracy has indeed failed.

You have to feel for poor Dion Phaneuf, who was second highest vote getter among defencemen. He will have to skate alongside 4 Senators in the opening lineup and his D partner is Erik Karlsson, who will undoubtedly score three points the opening shift and still finish a -2.

Kessel garnered the fourth most fan votes among forwards, and Lupul was 5th. The two are 4th and 5th in the points scoring race and are the only two to have played more than 30 and never gone more than a game without a point.

    Off season or some mitigating health issue?

    Agreed…its dumb…someone gets dirty.. sure make em pay.. someone gets hit cleanly..part of the game. I also don’t subscribe that you can’t cleanly hit a star.

    They should prohibit the hosting city’s fans from voting for the starting lineup. It’s getting insane.

    Someone posted on here that he just isn’t happy in Anaheim. Not sure the source but Murray started making comments a day or two later about people only staying if they really want to be there. I think he wants out. -7 with no points in his last 6 games doesnt look too good for him staying, I know that much.

    Phaneuf has refined his defensive game, plays against other teams’ top players every night, still throws big hits, (but waits for right opportunity, doesn’t go out of his way anymore), and is on pace for his second best point total since he has been in the nhl. All of this while captaining one of the nhl’s youngest teams, in a market where he is constantly hounded by media and fans. No all star? With all due respect, stfu. Please.

    I hope that Dion has his shooting stick for the All star game because if he does that means it is open season on 4 Sens players. I hope Alfie,Spezza or Michalek get in Dion’s line of shot and down goes one of them then two of them then the last one.It will be hard for him to hit Karlsson with a shot but who cares after he takes out 3 Sens will really make my All Star game more happy.
