The 2013 Winter Classic was finally announced yesterday, ending a few months’ worth of speculation that Toronto would square off against old rival Detroit at the Big House in Michigan. The event was announced with managers’ Burke and Holland on hand, among others – if their banter was any indication, the 24/7 feature should be awesome.

In addition to the game on the first day of 2013, the two team’s AHL affiliates will partake at their own outdoor game in a packed schedule over at the Tigers’ Comerica Park. Also on the schedule is back-to-back CHL games, as well as the Leafs – Wings alumni game.

Burke was asked by the NHL if he could fill up 50,000 seats with Leafs fans. He aptly replied, “Give me 72 hours”. It will be truly awesome to see persistent Leafs fans stealing tickets from the Red Wings’ followers and covering 80% of Michigan’s football stadium in blue and white.

Meanwhile, Ron Wilson, a grandfather of two, said he’d be cleaning up his language for the prospective 24/7 HBO series. Somewhere, Howard Berger is nodding approvingly.
