Dustin Brown on every team’s wishlist

It’s no surprise that after news broke of Dustin Brown‘s availability in the trade market, he’s been the new topic of conversation heading into the last weekend before the deadline. As the captain of the Kings and a member of the American Olympic squad, Brown has a pretty big profile and manageable cap hit, making him an obvious target for most teams.

Bob McKenzie had this to say about who looks interested right now:

BOS, BUF, EDM, NJD, NYR, PHI, TOR, VAN are amongst teams with high levels of interest in Brown.

So we know there is plenty of interest, and many of the clubs involved are also rumored to be in on Nash. It’s no surprise that the Leafs are involved with Burke stating that he wants to add some physicality to the top six. Brown hits everything he sees.

Philadelphia’s involvement sort of tells me that if they managed to land Brown, Van Riemsdyk would likely be out on the next plane. There is the chance of a domino effect here.

As far as the Leafs are concerned, who would be a trading piece? Well, luckily Pierre Lebrun just weighed in on that as well:

My guess is that the Leafs would be willing to move Luke Schenn in a straight swap for Dustin Brown but Kings will want more.

I’m not sure how much more the Kings could possibly want, but this is an interesting tweet nonetheless.

The idea is that the Kings want to move out Brown to free up some room and possibly because they’re looking to make a change to their captaincy. Perhaps they want to hand it over to Mike Richards so that he quits playing like absolute garbage.

The word below the street is that the Kings want a defenceman and a secondary scorer in return for Brown. Since Brown is only a secondary scorer himself — usually landing in the 55 point area — this seems like a blatant overpayment. If the Leafs are to add to this currently rumored Schenn package, I hope it isn’t anything of too much substance.

I’d be fine with seeing Brown in a Leafs jersey, but only for the right (sort of low) price. He’s no superstar.

I think you misunderstood what I typed. I said that Brown is the player we want Frattin to become in a few years.

Here’s something to think about: Frattin is only three years and two months younger than Brown.

    yeah I agree.

I like Frattin, I just haven’t heard anyone saying this many positive things about him except for maybe 3-5 guys on this board.

Cameron, I don’t think it’s my impatience that has me valuing Brown over Frattin… I think I’m relatively patient, and on board with keeping young players.

Also, brown is just over 3 years older than Frattin… and I haven’t seen anything or heard anyhting (other than a few guys here who’s opinions I give value) that would make me believe frattin is anything more than a 20 goal winger without a lot of the physicality and intangibles that brown brings.

schenn and a first for brown should be the deal. if not put frattin in and get the deal done. Burke the bussinessman needs to take over…sell those brown jerseys..winter classic next year..lets go

That is a very similar price to Carter, sounds like the right price, but the 1st would be nice to keep….maybe a 2nd and a prospect?

Don’t think Brown will cost us a first and Schenn. Thats what we would have given up for carter, and carter is arguably a better player then Brown. I think he comes a little cheaper hopefully

That is if you value Schenn the same as Johnson.

He is a 35 point per year 25 year old dman with potential to produce more….but his career -90 is scary!

don’t know a lot about jack johnson’s game, but from what I do know hes all point production and his defensive game is really lacking. I guess its based on which player they believed has more upside. It also seems that Burke wasn’t all in on Carter due to his contract so he probably wasn’t willing to sweeten the pot any further to ensure he got him

    I heard that too…

Just looking at the team stats and Schenn our hits everyone by a large margin….if we trade him we are really going to miss that hard hitting game back there…
