MLHS Trade Deadline Day Live Blog

Trade Deadline Day is finally upon us, and here at Hot Stove we’ve got things covered. Today we’ll run a live blog that I’ll be updating with any new trades that happen to go down. All across the country there will be eyes glued to networks and websites like TSN, Sportsnet, and the Score for a full 7 hours of coverage — it isn’t easy sitting around slamming coffee and eating like a pig all day, but I’ll have to make the necessary sacrifices.

Just a quick tip before things get rolling:  Today may be a good day for you to get a Twitter account if you haven’t already. Oh, and have your bingo cards ready.

Once the first trades start to happen, they will show up here, so hit refresh once in a while.

1:22 – Nabokov mulling over a contract. Not expected to be moved regardless. Lebrun says Montoya is being shopped by the Islanders.

12:55 – Nick Schultz dealt from the Wild to the Oilers for Tom Gilbert. Trade count: three.

12:45 – Commodore traded to Tampa for a conditional 7th round pick (who cares). Total trade count so far; two. McKenzie had this to say: “Popular theory: DAL is holding up a lot of teams. Many in on Steve Ott and not looking elsewhere until that’s resolved.”

12:40 – Burke tells TSN and Sportsnet that deadline could very well pass without a move from the Leafs. Ferraro and McGuire on TSN point to Burke’s ability to manipulate the market a little with these types of comments – both believe the Leafs get something done before the deadline.

12:08 – Aaron Portzline in Columbus reports that the Jackets have had up to 15 offers on a number of players. Kypreos confirms Clitsome claimed by the Jets.

11:50 – Ryan Rishaug of TSN had this to say: “Sense out of one NHL war room is the Nash situation is causing a massive holdup in other deals. If that drops, dam breaks?”

11:20 – Burke tells Sportsnet that he doesn’t expect to address the goaltending situation today.

11:15 – Tony Ambrogio at Sportsnet reports that Burke turned down an offer for Reimer

11:09 – Dreger reports that another NHL GM has said that Grabovski is in play. Bruins are in on Oduya in Winnipeg, and Jones in Colorado.

11:05 – Looks like the Red Wings are trying to add Paul Gaustad

10:55 – Kypreos reports that Nash will not waive his NTC to go to the Predators. The Habs get a 2nd round pick for Kostitsyn, and cancel the 5th round conditional pick from the Gill trade.

10:23 – Kostitsyn to Nashville is done – RDS reporting. The Predators are rumored to have an offer in for Nash as well.

10:15 – Sportsnet reports that the Leafs have made an offer for Nash that includes Joffrey Lupul. McKenzie from TSN says there’s a strong rumor about Andrei Kostitsyn going to Nashville.

10:00 – This was pointed out by Dreger earlier on air; the Sharks apparently offered up Niemi to the Flyers for Van Riemsdyk. Turned down.

9:30 – Dreger and company at TSN mention Jason Garrison and P.A. Parenteau as players that could be on the move – not sure either would garner any interest from the Leafs. Ryan White’s name out there too. I like him.

no no, i was responding to he only had 3 pts in 7 games,,,,i simply stated that he played a shutdown role with team canada,,,chill man

  • Schenn

    Very good point.

We’ve still got Holzer, Blacker and Percy making their way up the ranks, not to mention Gardiner playing with the Leafs.

On top of that Schenn and Franson are still very young, while Phaneuf and Gunnarsson are far from old!

  • Whalz

im hoping for a forward or goalie now….

    Darren Dreger

    @DarrenDreger

So much speculation on Nash. Player has not been asked to waive as of yet. 45 mins to deadline. Time crunch!! #tradecentre

I think it might be a situation where maybe they feel Aulie hasn’t progressed they way they would have liked, where others like Blacker and Holzer have. For sure though, an example of dealing from a strength to fill a weakness.

Do you have problems reading for comprehension?

I suggested Stevie knows more than you, maybe you can call him and give him advice on his next trade too.

  • captainmorgan69

The bad Tampa team is because of goaltending and defence sperm stain of the wall of life!!

  • Sic_Transit_Gloria

You’re being a bit of a douche, Bud.

not that I mind, I enjoy hamming it up with guys like you (just ask BBIBSB), but you are starting to look silly with these comments.

  • Cactus

Just got in and learned about the Aulie deal. I’m very happy with it.

Aulie may or may not be a good defenceman in the future, but he really sucked this year. Really sucked.

Excited to see Ashton and Holzer.

I guess it could be, I just don’t like losing a Dman of that size.

If he was below Holzer and Blacker, why weren’t they called up last week instead of him? Maybe they were trying to showcase him IDK.

  • Cactus

Wow, Simmons mentioned “Waiting For Godot”

    …I’m actually impressed.

  • reenergized

I know I’m beating a dead horse, but Aulie had a good run last year playing the number 1 pair on defence for a team that was winning! now he’s had a rough patch and we’re OK with trading him …

Now instert Riemer … same position but most want to hold on to Riemer … just saying

  • Shotgun Charlie

Keep in mind. Nonis and Dudley are great judges for talent. This trade may seem like we gave up on Aulie. I think it is a reshuffle of assets.  With Gardiner, Franson and Schenn on the leafs….Liles signing a new deal, Gunnar playing like a monster and Phaneuf the captain…it will be a hard enough time making room for Blacker and Holzer let alone Aulie

  • The Bud Life

Gee thanks sport, I don’t know if I’ll be able to sleep at night knowing you think my comments are silly.

  • Party Crasher

The only question now is which riot will be bigger. The one this year when they win the cup, or last year when they lost… lol

  • The Bud Life

Yeah I see your point, I just think we need to have some tougness on D, we lose some of that now. Saying that we need size up front too and Carter will help with that.

  • Yaknowwhat

That picture of cryin Ryan on this thread is killing me..lol..

  • Djglennpenny

YOU GOTTA BE JOKING……Aulie was a throw in with Dion in that trade now Burke turns him in a  6’3″ 205 forward who has skill…Aulie had a hard time sticking with the big club and with Blacker  and Holzer waiting in the wings Burke pulled a trade and it looks good from the Toronto point of view.

    Based on what?
