GDT: Leafs at Penguins (TSN)

Tonight the Lupul-less Leafs lock up with the Penguins for the fourth time this season. It’s a national broadcast on TSN and will also be streamed on TSN.ca. Toronto will be without Colby Armstrong as well, after he sustained a broken face in a fight with Dennis Seidenberg of the Bruins.

Heading into tonight’s matchup the Leafs have a 2-0-1 record versus Pittsburgh so far this season. Unfortunately this doesn’t seem like an ideal time to run into the Penguins.

Michalek and Chris Kunitz had the goals on Monday as Pittsburgh won its sixth straight game. The club is 18-4-1 over its past 23 games, a run that began with a season-high eight-game win streak from Jan. 13-31.

Pittsburgh also won its fourth straight at home and improved to 10-1 in its past 11 as the host. It plays the second of a four-game residency this evening.

The Penguins also received news this week that Sid The Kid could return as soon as Sunday, though nothing is confirmed at this point and we’re still hearing the “no timetable” bit.

Nothing is confirmed, but it looks as though Jonas Gustavsson will get the start again on the back end of consecutive nights. Gustavsson took the 5-4 loss last night against the Bruins in Toronto, posting a .848 save percentage.

It’s unclear as to why Carlyle won’t go to Reimer, but again, nothing confirmed at this point.

The Penguins will start backup netminder Brad Thiessen.

Carter Ashton has been recalled from the Marlies and could make his Leafs debut, but whether or not he plays depends on Mike Brown‘s health apparently.

With Lupul and Armstrong out, the lineup looks a little murky. It’s speculated that Kulemin will join the top line with Bozak and Kessel.
