Lupul likely out for remainder of season

From TSN.ca:

Toronto Maple Leafs forward Joffrey Lupul will be sidelined for three to four weeks with a separated shoulder.

Lupul suffered the injury after taking a check from David Krejci in Tuesday’s 5-4 loss to the Boston Bruins.

It’s possible Lupul may not see much more action this season with Toronto’s final regular-season game slated for April 7.

This is a tough shot to the Leafs’ already thin playoff chances. I’m guessing that Lupul’s potential return would depend on how the team plays in the next couple of weeks; it’s doubtful they would push him to come back unless they’re right back in the race again.

Shutting it down until next season may be the best move for Lupul who has also been experiencing a nagging wrist injury.

Lupul has 67 points in 66 games.

Seriously? I can’t wait for the environmentalist response to this. Paper entire cities to make something so wildly successful in paperless social media gain more attention? Sounds like good times. Save the Earth!; unless of course you’re trying to drive some marginally more effective media coverage for your social crusade of choice.

It sounds more like a stupid excuse for social rebellion than a well thought out campaign to increase the momentum generated through such an excellent video. Don’t get me wrong, my degree is in African History, and it focused on the difficulties African nations experienced-and continue to suffer from-in the transition to post-colonial rule. So I greatly support the efforts of those who created the video, but postering urban environments will, IMO, draw more negative attention than positive. It certainly will produce no greater message than the video does on it’s own. Such an undertaking will likely be seen more for its inherent vandalism and juvenile sense of expression than any serious socially conscious initiative. Sorry to say this, but it is how I feel.

When considering the topic of that video, one could argue that any effort to call attention is legitimate. But that argument is disingenuous. Just because “its worth a shot”, does not make it a good or effective decision. When dealing with issues as important as this, I think that the demand on us should be to search for the best course of action, not anything and everything possible.
Such choices as postering cities just serves to cloud the debate, taking attention away from the issue at hand, and turning it onto the antisocial behaviour of its supporters. These actions do more harm than good. They allow others to ignore the message by dismissing its delivery. The video is amazingly effective, and look at the result. If you are involved in this, please share this outsiders perspective on the potential fallout. I would hate to see such an important message suffer from the inevitable backlash.

I’ve seen such vids and worse. Remeber back in ’99 watching video of S. African street children (think tween years) discussing how cheap it was to buy an AK-47 and go hijack cars. And that’s not even related to the reality of child soldiers all over Africa. Please, I don’t mean to be dismissive, but this is not an area where I’ve failed to educate myself-and pay a great deal to do it too.

Thanks for providing some alternate sources of info. See more logic to their other plans when I see what corners they’ll cut elsewhere. This is what I was talking about there Chazz, if you want legitimate attention drawn to your issues, the integrity of how you gain that attention will often determine your legacy.

The Ugandan government is said to use the same tactic, and that is essentially where the money is going, when people see the video and donate.

Sorry everybody, didn’t mean to turn this into another ugly debate, you’ve simply caught me on a point I have a lot of passion for. But perhaps it would be better to get back to another topic for which I have a great deal of passion, GO LEAFS GO!
