The  Leafs play their third from last game tomorrow in Buffalo as the season winds down to a depressing close. I hate having to ask the following question, but here’s your conversation starter for this morning: say the Leafs lose to a hungry Sabres team tomorrow, fall to the Lightning in the home finale, and the second or third overall draft pick – depending on how the Oilers finish – is up for decision this Saturday against Montreal. Would any bit of you want the Leafs to lose to the Canadiens in the season finale, in Montreal? I only ask the question because many still curse Boyd Devereaux’s and Martin Gerber’s names for what effectively ruined the Leafs’ chances at Brayden Schenn in 2009, and Devereaux’s hat trick came against the Senators.

I hope the Leafs pick up a win in their next two – and they’ve owned the Lightning this season – so this is all hypothetical. I’m tired of us having to ask the question and the only way the end to this season could get more depressing is if Leafs Nation is torn on whether or not we want the Leafs to beat the Habs. I think Burke should aggressively pursue a trade up scenario anyways, targetting that Edmonton pick for a package involving the Leafs’ pick and a defenceman.

Leafs asking Phaneuf to do too much
Mirtle suggests Burke is setting up Phaneuf for failure by casting him as a  a no. 1 defenceman in terms of match ups &  ice time, in addition to producing points and hitting that’s expected of him. If I were Burke I’d consider breaking the bank big time on Ryan Suter to share the big responsibilities. Mirtle also dismisses the Phaneuf-Schenn rift, suggesting Feschuk did indeed base that entire allegation around Brayden Schenn and Dion Phaneuf face washing each other the other night.

Good point. Hard to pass up on a Malkin type of guy but if he simply decides to not try to move up I think he can avoid having to answer for it. If we win the lottery and draft #1 overall I think he needs to bite the bullet and end his streak, draft Yak and move on.
1 more thing, I will continue to put in every post during this discussion that I don’t give a flying fuck where somebody is from, I always feel things can be easily misconstrued when talking about topics like this and wouldn’t want that.

A few more than 82 games in total there so the total’s inflated by a couple of points, but so frustrating to think that the team played that well for a year straight.

Really, I think playing with McDavid would be pretty cool. And Erie will be better next year for sure. They traded away a lot of vets at the deadline for younger guys and picks.

But he did have his knee totally reconstructed. That’s pretty huge going down the road. Just ask Andrei Markov.

Kreider is a winger. And it would depend if two of Girardi, Staal, and Del Zotto play right side.

Personally, I wonder if Gardiner can handle being partnered with Dion next year. With Schultz and Gunnerson as a pair, until he can get some experience. I do have my doubts about how Dion and Jake would look in their own end however.

Oddly, or not considering how it affects skating, but it seems like foot injuries re-occur the most often, and are the most debilitating to ones overall play. (ie: Forsberg)

This might sound crazy, but I think it’s possible Burke would trade down if we got #1 overall in the lottery, and get immediate help while trying to stay high enough to draft one of Galchenyuk, or Forsberg.

Interesting. I would imagine that it affects a defencemen more than a forward, considering they’re always changing from backwards to forwards, and turning around a good deal in their own end around the net.

Yep, he was the other guy on my mind. He just hasn’t totally fallen off because of it yet. But if you look up his injury history, it’s largely foot/ankle related.

Arthroscopics have changed things as well. Orr had multiple knee surgeries that were like open heart operations. They used to just cut out chunks of the injured ligaments until theThe was almost nothing left of the tissue.
