The final game of the season series between the Leafs and the Sabres is upon us. For those of us who thought this game would be more meaningful (at the middle of the regular season), well, I guess the joke is on us.

Actually, the game is meaningful to the Sabres, who are chasing the Capitals after their last night’s loss against Steven Stamkos and the Tampa Bay Lightning. It’s also relevant to the Leafs because of the draft lottery – that much is obvious.

Each team won all their home games in the season series and the Sabres will likely want to continue that trend in tonight’s game. Given all our injuries and recent form, I wouldn’t advise betting against it.

INJURIES:

With both James Reimer (upper body) and Jonas Gustavsson (lower body) ailing, Ben Scrivens figures to get the start again.  Forwards Joffrey Lupul (shoulder) and Nikolai Kulemin (finger), David Steckel (lower body) and Mikhail Grabovski (leg) are also sidelined for tonight’s game.

The Sabres will be most likely be missing Tyler Myers, fellow defenseman Mike Weber (upper body) and forward Nathan Gerbe (upper body) who are all day-to-day for Buffalo, while defenseman Christian Ehrhoff (knee) and forward Matt Ellis (knee) are out indefinitely.

QUOTE TO NOTE:

“You want to come out and be confident, that’s how I play the game. When I am with the (AHL) Marlies, I am trying to play that same game. It’s not a matter of trying to do one thing or another for a specific situation. I play best when I am at the top of the crease when I am in a good ready stance and when I can play the puck and help the guys break the puck out. The intention was just to play my game.”

- Ben Scrivens

WHO TO WATCH:

Joey Crabb has been my far the most productive Leaf in the season series, scoring two goals and grabbing three assists in the five games played between the two teams. The next top producer is out for tonight’s game (Mikhail Grabovski, 3 goals, 1 assist).

Surprisingly, at least Don Cherry thinks so, Nazem Kadri‘s call up assignment was taken by Joe Colborne. Let’s see how it goes before criticizing it. Also, let’s not fight Brian Burke in a barn, a route which Don is currently going down.

As a fan, wanting “your” team to lose on purpose is gutless. It has nothing to do with the lack of quality on the ice. Teams don’t plan on losing.

I get it, everyone gets what your saying, we aren’t stupid. The only person who doesn’t understand is you, teams don’t go out to lose on purpose, that’s the part you’re not getting.

I am not suggesting they lose on purpose, we are without our 1st line winger, 2nd line centre, 2nd line winger and both starting goalies … if we lose at this particular stage in the game, where we are in the standings I am OK with that … in Montreal their goalie who is everything to them some how magically gets a concussion but somehow “teams don’t lose on purpose ” wake up ffs

Whatever. It seems you are content with a fucking losing team. Maybe I’d be a better fan if I was also content with epic failures of this organization. This team needs high end talent, period. Of course if your too busy accepting losing, then you’s obviously have a tough team seeing that. Losing losing losing losing, what don’t you get???

Wow, putting words in mouth I see. No, I am not happy with another season without playoffs, I obviously don’t except losing otherwise I would be a member of tank nation… correct? You are tired of losing yourself, but yet you want them to tank, somewhat of a contradiction… correct?

It comes to down to being a conspiracy theorist thinking that other teams do it (they don’t) so why shouldn’t the Leafs do it as well. They won’t

Anyway, you’re on your own. People somehow think we aren’t good fans because we want this team to turn into a competitive one, not this failure year after year after. Not good enough to make the playoffs, but no draft reward. What don’t people get? To me,it defies logic and it’s beyond comprehension.

sometimes in here you start to doubt your own sanity because if you are not kissing Burkes ass and routing for the team even if it is a detriment to their long term success you are a son of a bitch, glad someone else gets it

That doesn’t even make sense? Your drafting a high end prospect that’s going to be a piece to finally pulling this horseshit team out of the gutter. Pressure…what so we don’t want a top prospect b/c he’ll have to deal with pressure?

this is exactly what I am talking about, one is yapping about conspiracy theories and another about the pressure on a kid drafted in the top 5 for fucks sakes, if he is being drafted in the top 5 there is no doubt he has faced all kinds of pressure throughout his career AND THAT IS THE REASON HE IS BEING DRAFTED IN THE TOP FIVE
