Morning Mashup: Join the MLHS Playoff Pool

Playoff hockey is great, but the emptiness of being a Leafs fan on the sidelines has returned again this spring. May as well join a pool with your fellow MLHS’ers to increase your personal interest in the playoffs. I have set up a Maple Leafs Hot Stove group at the CBC Playoff Pool. The grand prize for the winner of the overall CBC pool is a KIA car of some sort, and we’ll figure out a prize for the champion of the MLHS group as well. Join the group here and share your picks in the comments.

I was saying the other day 21 guys had 100 points or better that year with Mario on top with 160. The only 100 point guy this year is Malkin. In 93 there were 32 guys with more than 90 points. This year there’s three. I feel sorry for great NHL players in this era. When their career is over they won’t be anywhere near the top of all time stats just because the game is so tight now. I mean, Sellane had 76 goals as a rookie!

It’s not so much that. It’s just that years from now people will read stats showing guys like Craig Janney, Mike Rogers, John Tonelli, Paul McLean, Bobby MacMillan, Rob Brown, Mike Bullard all cracking 100 points, with much more gifted players from this era never getting close.

If the Leafs want to sign some free agents they will have to make a splash at the draft (before July 1st)… A big change would make the FA’s interested. Perhaps a #1 goalie if you want Suter here
