Mashup: What would you do for Bobby Lou?

The Roberto Luongo speculation found another gear yesterday with the revelation from the 33-year-old himself that he would accept a request to waive his no trade clause. The big questions that surround any possible move to Toronto remain whether or not Brian Burke would trade for a contract he wouldn’t sign himself  (backsliding and by his definition cap circumventing), and whether or not Luongo sees Toronto as a desirable destination. With Schneider in need of a new deal, Luongo will surely be actively shopped, and the market can’t be huge considering it’s narrowed by two parameters: 1) not every team is in search for a goaltender, certainly not one with Luongo’s price tag, and 2) the fact that Luongo controls his own destiny. Should the Leafs be a desirable destination of Luongo’s, the price shouldn’t be unreasonably steep considering those various factors.

I’ve talked about this before, but Luongo is made a much more attractive option for the Leafs if Burke believes an amnesty provision is a likely addition within the new CBA. An amnesty provision similar to the NBA’s that is, which allows the purging of one contract from the cap at any point during the duration of the 10-year CBA. You could certainly argue that, given the lack of options, Luongo should be a target regardless.

There’s also the possibility that the relationship might not be the greatest after Gillis accused the Leafs of tampering. Cox adds that the Canucks may expect Gardiner to be apart of the deal.

That’s what I’m hoping. Need to keep and develop our own prospects and break the cycle of trading them and have other teams benefit when they hit heir stride.

Agreed…I think we are still rolling the dice with Kadri.. the potential is there but its yet to be seen if he’ll reach that potential. I keep hoping he’ll be a Martin St. Louis style player…he’s not that big but he’s aggressive…not sure he has teh skill set for that though

Toskala was behind Nabakov I thought (before coming to the Leafs)…. Bry got moved because he was behind Giggy no? I could be totally out to lunch here though.

I know you have issues with assessing Schneider on his AHL performance but its his largest body of work where he was a starter.. he’s inconsistent game to game… I’m not saying he can’t be a starter but he’s not proven he’s even as good as Luongo let alone better.. that being said I think Vancouver just needs to part ways with Bobby Lou…both parties will be better for it.

I hear you. I know there are many opposing views on Kadri, but my opinion is that he will be a PPG player, and very valuable in the next year or two. I want the Leafs to have a player who can literally bring you out of your seat at a moments notice.

I hope they don’t go after Luongo.. too big of a contract and he worries me in big games.. If they are going to go after a big name goalie, which I don’t think they will do, I hope it’s Kipprusoff.. The guy comes to play every single night, may cost too much for an aging goaltender though.

Theres examples across the board of backups who sucked and who didn’t… I think the point was that you dont know until you go with a guy.. and it may or may not work.
