Mashup: What would you do for Bobby Lou?

The Roberto Luongo speculation found another gear yesterday with the revelation from the 33-year-old himself that he would accept a request to waive his no trade clause. The big questions that surround any possible move to Toronto remain whether or not Brian Burke would trade for a contract he wouldn’t sign himself  (backsliding and by his definition cap circumventing), and whether or not Luongo sees Toronto as a desirable destination. With Schneider in need of a new deal, Luongo will surely be actively shopped, and the market can’t be huge considering it’s narrowed by two parameters: 1) not every team is in search for a goaltender, certainly not one with Luongo’s price tag, and 2) the fact that Luongo controls his own destiny. Should the Leafs be a desirable destination of Luongo’s, the price shouldn’t be unreasonably steep considering those various factors.

I’ve talked about this before, but Luongo is made a much more attractive option for the Leafs if Burke believes an amnesty provision is a likely addition within the new CBA. An amnesty provision similar to the NBA’s that is, which allows the purging of one contract from the cap at any point during the duration of the 10-year CBA. You could certainly argue that, given the lack of options, Luongo should be a target regardless.

When thinking and reading some of your comments of who I would trade for Lu. I thought where really does Roberto sit in the league when discussing the best goaltenders in the game. So I thought he’s not better than Rinne, Quick, Kipper, Lundvist, Thomas or Miller. You would probably take Price, Ward and Fluery right now and at the next Olympics over Lou. I know it’s only one year but Halak, Elliott, and Smith all had better years. You can argue that you would want Howard, Neimi and Anderson over Lou. Even Lou’s back-up took his job in crunch time. And put up better numbers. Throw in Roberto’s massive contract and age on top of that and you have a bad situation. Then I see guys throw young prospects in deals for him, it’s pretty hilarious actually. I actually like Lou seems like a good guy and he’s a decent goaltender. If we were to get him all we should be trading is salary we don’t want back to Vancouver. I doubt it happens though.

Bryz backed up gigiure. Crawford was third string to neimi and Huet. And Toskala backed up Nabokov. Hasek osgood were two veteran goalies these other guys are young guys playing with veterans.

Kipper is not better than Luongo. dno wth ur talkin about with Howard, Halak, Anderson, Niemi, Smith (one good round, seriously?), Fleury is a toss up, Luongo would not be 3rd last place for ANY team in this league so im still not convinced Price is better, Elliot was absolutely sick this year so ill say nothing there,Thomas is tailing off, has Miller ever won a series in his career? Wth is this? IMO your post is a biased joke sorry.

Ya that was my point as well. It’s like everyone loves the back-up quarterback until the back-up quarterback is the starter. Same goes for goalies in most cases

Halak and smith had just as good of years as Elliott. Pretty sure lou was on some shitty teams in Florida so don’t see where you are getting the price arguement. I also said you could make an arguement for neimi, howard and anderson didn’t say you would win it. Fluery is better. And so is miller. In one breath your saying smith only has had one good series in the next your saying miller hasn’t won a series so does it matter or no? Lou plays on one of the best teams in the league and still can’t win.
