Report: Leafs on Roberto Luongo’s List of Teams
VANCOUVER, CANADA - APRIL 5: Roberto Luongo #1 of the Vancouver Canucks makes a save off a Colorado Avalanche shot during their game at General Motors Place on April 5, 2009 in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. (Photo by Jeff Vinnick/NHLI via Getty Images)

TSN is reporting that Roberto Luongo will be submitting a list of teams he will be willing to be traded to next week and that the Toronto Maple Leafs will be one of them. Likely in no small part due to Luongo‘s summer goalie coach Francois Allaire working for the team, it appears Luongo would accept a trade to the Leafs should one formulate.

Speculation has been rampant since the Vancouver Canucks were eliminated from the Stanley Cup playoffs and had turned to backup netminder, Cory Schneider over Roberto Luongo in their series against the LA Kings. Luongo’s latest meeting with the press sounded and read much like an exit interview. Even before the Canucks’ playoffs were over, the official team website was announcing the start of the Cory Schneider era. The writing is indeed on the wall.

The question now becomes one of price. Let the fun begin.

Simmons – for once had a good comment regarding Luongo and the Leafs:

What is the alternative for the Leafs ?

He believes the price is a draft pick/ mid prospect and a salary dump.

If that’s all it is, it’s a no brainer for me. I would imagine it isn’t quite that low, but given the market is limited to five teams and the contract is an albatross, it shouldn’t be too much higher either.

Let’s say it’s more than a little higher, and the price is Kadri and Komisarek. Deal or no deal?

Only takes one more team like a Tampa Bay to drive up the price a significant amount given the state of the goalie market. If there’s something brewing with Boston and their goaltending situation that might change all that though.

Well atleast this summer looks a little easier for Burke, assuming Luongos price isnt that high. This would really attract UFAs more…

No to including Kadri in any deal.

If the rumbles out of Pitt are true, and there is any chance the Pens are willing to listen BB should throw everything he can at them to land Malkin. I would include anybody but Kadri, Kessel, Lups, or Gardiner to get it done. If can’t be done, target Staal.

Adding Malkin and Luongo = playoffs. BB can then add a couple of gritty guys (Prust & Moen?) to help insulate the kids.

I still believe the Leafs are a couple of players away, not a bunch.

Would be nice to get him. As long as the cost is in Alec’s range. Didn’t know Allaire was his goalie coach. So I guess they’ll be talking at next practice.

Id trade the nucks a Colborne or a Franson but as much as ive vouched for Luongo..Kadri is a pretty steep price. Colborne, Franson, Connolly = probably the absolute MOST id do. No superstars, but eventual contributers for them. I think they’d really like Franson in the deal, as he’s a cheap and young alternative to Salo minus the injuries.

At the end of the day, a Luongo could mean a Parise, a Suter, or to a lesser extent a Schultz, or Langenbrunner..I think this is a key attribute to the matter that WONT give Vancouver incentive but it should be something we understand as truth when the price goes slightly up.

yep – agree and they have the kitchen zink as well. Even Kadri I would consider in the deal for Malkin.

Malkin between Lupul and Kessel – yes please
