It’s a meeting of two top AHL affiliates of a pair of young and rebuilding Canadian NHL franchises, both vying for a spot in the Calder Cup Final.

The Western Conference final between the AHL Western Conference’s top two teams in the Toronto Marlies and Oklahoma City Barons has little separating them on paper. A goaltending duel between Ben Scrivens and the more veteran Yann Danis could prove to be the pivotal matchup of the series. Both have top three stats among goaltenders in the AHL playoffs.

    Gotta admit I was afraid the Marlies may come out flat after the long layoff. Glad they were able to avoid what ailed them the last round. I hope that the Barons weren’t just flat and had trouble getting started. Don’t let them up Marlies.

    Just got back home to see that the Marlies won 5-0. Hell yeah! Psyched when I saw who the goal scorers were too. Can’t lie that I’m loving that the teams whose affiliates the Marlies are beating as well (Buffalo, Calgary, Edmonton).

    I am aiming for Game 3 on Monday as well, however if work calls, I can’t turn down double pay, haha.

    Another factor is whether I wanna sit in my car for an hour each way and inside an arena on a beautiful spring day.

    If Reimer had a season like MIke Smith next year, we’d look pretty dumb with another scoring winger at 8 million per year and continued porous goal-tending. Obviously, you take that chance, but I can see where someone gets that insane opinion. It’s really about how you see Reimer’s career trending. If he’s a legit starter who will return to 920 SV % goal-tending, than yea, RIck Nash might not look so appealing.

    Another lovely game from the Marlies.

    Two things i noticed:

    Gardiner – coast to coast and what a goal. That kid is going to be something special.

    Colborne – got s scrap goals but getting him going again will be huge for the Marlies.
