Game Night: Marlies at Admirals, Game 2

The Marlies look to avoid a 2-0 hole before returning to Toronto for Games 3, 4, and 5 of the Calder Cup Finals tonight. Their struggling PP cost them a chance to steal Game 1 despite being outplayed and missing a number of key offensive contributors. The positive is that Ben Scrivens continued to give them that chance, allowing two goals on 41 shots against. The Marlies will have to try to eke out a win with hard-fought, physical, defensive hockey and find ways to pick up some garbage goals with a lot of skill missing from the lineup.

This game is pivotal if the Marlies hope to raise the Calder Cup at series’ end. Go back to Toronto for the next three games tied at 1s and they’re in good shape, with hopefully some bodies returning to the lineup. Lose tonight and it’s a 2-0 hole to a very good Admirals team, something the Marlies have not experienced at any point in the playoffs.

Of course, there’s another big game going on tonight, Game 2 of the Stanley Cup Finals between the Kings and Devils in New Jersey. A good night of hockey lies ahead.

Yup, I remember those days, although I was able to sleep just fine the night before, but didn’t concentrate much at school during the day, haha.

    What a save by Marty!!

I just can’t stop thinking about how different this Marlies/Admirals series would be if Toronto added a line of Kadri/Zigomanis/Frattin to go along with:
    Ashton/Colborne/HamiltonD’Amigo/Dupuis/DeschampsRosehill/Acton/Scott

Those were good, but I’ve probably been around too long. They seem like a welcome blip in a life time of waiting. I’ve seen the Leafs win four cups. So a lot of the conversations I read here are the same ones I was having with my buddies in the early 1970s.

oh god you HAVE seen it all. Your a lucky man. Conference finals is as close as I seen. I was too young to understand the 93 run fully, and then I remember how pumped I was after they beat the Canes in game one back in 2002 only to blow it

Hey, I still play hockey! It’s my opinion that the Leafs are still recovering from the Ballard era. Such horrible, cheap stewardship of a world class franchise. The team image has never recovered. Younger people don’t realize that much of the anti-leafs stuff today is a holdover from that era. Imagine a team going a stretch of 13 years where they lost far fewer games every year than they won. I once had a standing bet with a buddy for a decade that Leafs wouldn’t win 25 games in a season and I think I won eight times!

Isn’t it a good thing to “lose far fewer games every year than they win.”

ya the weird angle on the camera. My favourite was when Thomas scored in game 2 of the philly series way back when they were about to go down 0-2 in the series. I lost it yelling
