The Marlies would’ve liked to put on a better showing in their final home game of the season than the 6-1 loss that saw the Norfolk Admirals raise the Calder Cup on Ricoh ice yesterday. We all would’ve liked to have seen the Marlies push historically good team – Norfolk just capped a run the likes of which the AHL has never seen – more than four games. A pile of injuries and a royal screwjob by the refs (not that it would’ve changed the end result) didn’t exactly have the Marlies best positioned to keep pace with a great team. It doesn’t detract from their accomplishment as the best of the West. Thanks to their run, the city of Toronto hosted its first ever professional playoff hockey game in June. And hopefully there was some valuable development along the way.

Onto your links.

A lot of you think the 5th is the only asset draft pick wise that we have but if we offer some of our good second line talent and our second which is really high we could put a deal together for Nash that helps us and Columbus.

the St. Louis game was the one he absolutely stole. They outshot and outplayed us badly.

Looks like he played 10, but it’s hazy now that the seasons gone. I have a vague recollection of the commentators saying his stick work looked great in his first couple of games, but I guess I didn’t see enough of him.

I agree, we’re one centre short now with Kessel, adding another scoring winger may only exacerbate the problem.

Right after they brought Hitchcock in too. One of the few losses on home ice they had all year.

I think if Nash play with kessel they could both put up 90pts. Look I’m not big on the Nash plays on a bad team argument but I do think he’s never played with great quality line mates in CLB he plays with kessel and his production will soar. Is Nash overpaid? Yea by 2 Mill or so, but he’s worth it if we’re not giving up all our young talent. You said earlier he doesn’t use his size much and that’s not true at all he’s honestly one of the strongest players in the game half his goals come from him completely out muscling the all star defenseman of the western conference

And depending on where Nash plays, he may actually hurt Lupul and Kessel’s production.

I feel like trading for Nash would be very similar to when Ottawa traded for Heatley, they gave up Hossa for a guy who ha similar numbers in Heatley, but when Heatley moved to Ottawa his point production soared. I think trading lupul and say schenn and our second would be a close comparison.

Not a bad comparison except they had a gifted natural centre and we don’t. I think it’s highly doubtful we get the most out of a guy like Nash with our current lineup up the middle.

Scrivens also played against Ottawa in the hall of fame game, I didn’t really like his performance though, Sens easily picked the corners. That being said they had 2-3 breakaways that game so I took it with a grain of salt.

I think kessel makes up for that though, honestly throw a connolly between those two to cover the defensive end of things and let Nash and Kessel go nuts.

I hate that argument too kessel had proven through 30 goal seasons he doesn’t need a centre to put up a ton of points same with Nash, throw Nash and Kessel together and they’ll feed off each other.

I’m not saying Lupuls not good enough at all, I’m just saying I think Nash is tier one talent while Lupul is still a first line guy but he’s in that tier two talent. Im throwing lupul in because I think if trading him means not losing our first and kadri/Gardiner then I think it’s more than worth it to acquire a huge winger thats been a consistent 25-30 goal scorer on a terrible team.
