After the jump is the James van Riemsdyk Twitter Q&A and media scrum from this morning. In the meantime, Ken Holland had a fantastic idea:

“When we began the process of determining who should be on the roster for the Red Wings alumni team, it became very obvious, very quickly that we simply did not have enough room on one bench to hold enough of the many deserving players,” said Holland. “When we contacted Toronto and asked them what they thought about the possibility of two games, they immediately breathed a sigh of relief as they were going through the exact same issues we were in trying to fit all these players on one team.”

The Leaf rosters will feature Darryl Sittler; 50-goal scorer Rick Vaive; fan favorites Darcy Tucker, Felix Potvin, Mike Palmateer and Kevin Maguire; Stanley Cup champions Dave Andreychuk and Doug Gilmour; rough and tumble winger Wendel Clark; 454- win goaltender Curtis Joseph and Maple Leafs legends Johnny Bower, Ron Ellis and Jim McKenny plus many more.

The Red Wings will counter with 50-goal scorers Mickey Redmond and John Ogrodnick; Hall of Famers Luc Robitaille, Dino Ciccarelli, Chris Chelios, Larry Murphy and Mark Howe; all four members of ‘The Grind Line’ – Kris Draper, Kirk Maltby, Darren McCarty and Joe Kocur; Stanley Cup-winning goaltenders Chris Osgood and Mike Vernon; and Red Wings legends Gordie Howe, Ted Lindsay and Alex Delvecchio.

    I think it’s pretty safe to say that no matter the outcome Thomas wont be playing next year.

    I’m starting to come around to the idea of having Reimer as our #1 going into this season.

    I mean the guy played great in the 2nd half of 2010/11 when he debuted and that great play continued into last season, until he was KO’d by Gionta.

    By the time the pre-season games start, it’ll be almost 11 months since the incident occurred, so there is no reason to believe he can’t play great hockey again this season.

    I just wish Burke would have resigned Giguere to continue mentoring him, but who would have guessed that Jiggy would rebound after off-season surgery last year??

    It would be talked about every day, and not just on sports shows. Part of Thomas’s Tea Party’s schtick is the thing about Obama secretly being a Muslim. Nice atmosphere for Nazem.

    Tim Thomas is neither right wing nor left wing, nor religious right. He’s a Constitutionalist. To compare him to anyone it would be Ron Paul. He’s ahead of the curve, and since most people don’t understand what he’s talking about they label him with things they do understand. He’s not anti-gay, he’s not a wing nut. He’s a pretty smart guy paying attention to things most people don’t. I’d love to have him in Toronto, but it seems a pipe dream. If you’re going to judge him, judge him on his goaltending, not what you think about him away from the rink. Do some research before you pin labels on the guy.
