After adding Dylan Yeo and Keith Aucoin last week (who have three Calder Cup championships between them), the Marlies have brought back Mike Zigomanis on a one-year deal. Dave Nonis is certainly loading up the AHL affiliate for another run. The Marlies also signed Will Acton, who was an effective fourth liner for them last season.

Acton and Zigomanis are both back on AHL deals, meaning they do not take up any Standard Player Contract slots.

From the Marlies:

A proud member of the American Hockey League, the Toronto Marlies announced Monday that the team has re-signed forwards Mike Zigomanis and Will Acton, as well as signed free agent defenceman Dylan Yeo to one-year contracts, respectively.

Zigomanis, 31, appeared in 68 regular season games with the Marlies in 2011-12. The 6-0, 200-pound Toronto, Ontario native led the Marlies in scoring this past season, registering 61 points (19 goals, 42 assists). Zigomanis also skated in 13 Calder Cup Playoff games, recording six points (four goals, two assists) and 10 penalty minutes. In two seasons with the Marlies, Zigomanis has accumulated 108 points in 132 games.

Acton, 25, played 69 regular season games with the Marlies last season, recording 16 points (seven goals, nine assists) with 58 penalty minutes. The 6-2, 190-pound Stouffville, Ontario native also tallied two points (one goal, one assist) in 17 playoff games for Toronto this past season. Prior to signing with the Marlies as a free agent in 2010-11, Acton played four seasons at Lake Superior State University.

Yeo, 26, skated in 48 AHL regular season games with the Oklahoma City Barons in 2011-12, posting 13 points (five goals, eight assists) and 37 penalty minutes. The 5-11, 210-pound Prince Albert, Saskatchewan native also played in 14 playoff games with Oklahoma City last season, registering eight points (one goal, seven assists). Yeo has appeared in 102 career AHL games and 174 ECHL games. In 2008-09, Yeo was named the ECHL’s Defenceman of the Year while playing for the Victoria Salmon Kings.

I don;t think they can push that stubborn Irishman. He’s been fired before and I suspect he would take that rather than not do it his way.

The Kings rebuild took nine years. Leafs rebuild is 3 years and 8 months old. Less than four years ago Fletcher was still trading leaf players.

Burke promised a 3 year rebuild though, so he does have some explaining to do. If he can get the Leafs into the playoffs this season, without completely fucking up the long-term outlook of the franchise, all will be forgiven. Well, almost all.

I really admire him for that Rusty. Doesn’t solve our situation one bit if he’s forced to quit.

It was a huge selling point getting him to take the Leafs job. He was promised autonomy. It’s not like he applied to work for the leafs. They went after him. He was gainfully employed in Anaheim and it was on Nov. 29 2008 he moved to TO.

What are you talking about? “slight young Gards”? I like Gardiner. He’s a good young player. The only things I have ever said about Gardiner that could even erroneously be seen as negative are that I only expect him to be a 2nd pair dman (but 1st PP unit guy) and that I don’t think he will match his point total from last season this season if Liles is healthy, because he will get less PP time. Neither of those are “slighting” Gardiner.

    Well, I didn’t say:

But Burke said we’d get a 3 year rebuild!

    I said:

Burke promised a 3 year rebuild.

The different wordings carry different tones.

Okay, so maybe I shouldn’t have used the word “promised”. I did, however, just looked up that same quote a few minutes ago, and thought people would still understand what point I was making.

Burke wasn’t planning on doing a 5 year rebuild, but so far, he’s on pace to take AT LEAST 5 years. He’s admitted himself that he has failed to do his job adequately. He said so after missing the playoffs in 10/11, and the team finished even worse this past season. He needs to show some real, tangible success (like making the playoffs) this season. He has a fair bit to answer for. Our prospect pool is deep, but thin on high-end talent. And the team’s 5 best current players are all either:

A: At least 28 years old
    or
B: A UFA in 2 or less years

Your glass is decidedly half empty. Every team in the league has issues with impending UFA,s and RFA,s . For some reason though , its impending doom when its a Leaf player.

The fact that out best players are 28 or less, regardless of their contract status is a positive.

Just watched the replay of Canada – Sweden soccer game.
Heres a question , is Christine Sinclairs carreer destined to parallel that of George Best. Greatest football players , female and male, never to win major International Championships.

If shes never won a Lou Marsh, its time
