Marlies 3 vs. Bulldogs 1: Game In Tweets
Tonight in Cobourg, the Marlies defeated the Hamilton Bulldogs 3-1 in the first of two preseason games against their divisional rival. The Marlies battled back after falling behind in the first period; Brad Ross (who also scored in each of the intrasquad scrimmages) tipped home a Jake Gardiner point shot in the second before Greg Scott won the game late in the third with a powerplay goal set up by Nazem Kadri. Greg McKegg sealed the deal with an empty netter.
As for the remark in the pre-game ceremony from the mayor of Cobourg Gill Brocanier, it sounds like his fat joke about Nazem Kadri was more of a shot at the Toronto media than Kadri himself. Speaking on the size of the locker rooms in his city’s new arena, the mayor said something along the lines of “they’re big enough to fit fat beer league players but, according to the Toronto papers, not Nazem Kadri.” In any event, Jonas Siegel’s tweet described the joke as tasteless and the word is that members of Leafs brass in attendance weren’t pleased.
I give this persisting non-story a big “who cares?”
The game story in tweet-form:
Mayor in Cobourg caused a bit of stir before tonight’s Marlies game. Made a tasteless crack about Kadri’s weight.

Nice scrap as Devane continues the hatred between Toronto and Hamilton. He wins fight over Hagel. #Marlieslive

Marlies have been pushing @bulldogsahl. Nazem Kadri hits a crossbar. Still 1-1 in the 3rd. #GohabsGo #Habs

Kadri Robbed by goal judge who really needs new glasses we are taking up a collection as we speak. Was a beauty. #AHL #marlies #TML

The @bulldogsahl PK couldn’t kill them all. Greg Scott goes 5-hole on #Habs Mayer with just over 2 mins to play. Marlies up 2-1.

And that’s the icing on the cake! @gmckegg14 gets the empty-netter, it’s 3-1 #Marlies!

@ingy56 I love it, Rogers TV carries OHL games, so every season I end up seeing every Leafs OHL prospect at least once, and they carry a lot of Marlies games as well.
@Pent_House One good thing with Rogers I guess, I’m on satellite so I have to rely on Sportsnet. They do carry Petes games on Cogeco in town.
@ingy56 No, but almost every day of the weekend, Rogers TV has an OHL game on, so I catch a lot of OHL games that way. Usually different teams.
@ingy56 i imagine the internal unrest and disfunction has been weeded out by now. Burke most likely had a meeting with his staff to get everyone on the same page and focused going forward.
@Zombie27 I say a tweet a day or so ago from Micheal Grange who has a pretty good handle on all the CBA stuff. He said when things go quiet on both sides that’s a good indicator they are making some progress. No talks have been scheduled yet but maybe one side or the other have indicated they intend to put another offer on the table. I expect we will hear later today or tomorrow that negotiations have resumed .
@Dangle_My_Berries Should be interesting to see how all the goaltenders respond to St. Croix (and Gordon and Cronin LOL)
Wow, is Paul Ranger ever a well spoken guy. I’m pulling for this player but even if he never makes the big team, he sounds like he’d be a fantastic mentor for all the young Marlies. Here he is after yesterday’s game. http://video.mapleleafs.nhl.com/videocenter/console?catid=446&id=187670&lang=en
@TheCanucksnaphook I remember watching a story on Owuya and how he comes from humble beginnings. Hope the kid turns into something special….didnt take him any time to get adjusted to the north american game, from the moment he arrived he put up sick numbers in the ECHL and shorts stints in the AHL. Also interested to see what Rynnas does this year.
@Dangle_My_Berries I think he is a big athletic kid. He is going to push Scrivens for the top spot (which Scrivy will get based on last season)
@Burtonboy Hopefully it means they’ve been told to keep quiet on something meaningful that is brewing…one can only hope…
@Burtonboy I would think they will have to wait and see if the various ECHL teams have room for players too. Unless they sign an exclusive agreement or have one in place that no one knows about.
@Burtonboy maybe Fehr has put a muzzle on the PA. Hopefully this means they are working on something concrete…its a stretch…
Subbury vs Ottawa good game right, catching Leivo, he destroyed some one hard against the boards on the PK
@ingy56 From the sounds of what he was saying earlier this week he will carry 3 extra forwards, 2 d-men and an extra goalie.
@Dangle_My_Berries Nothing about the strike per say or Bettman was there ? I follow a lot of others ,not only the Leafs and a lot were pretty vocal about Bettman. Seems to have gone very quirt on that front .
@Dangle_My_Berries I think he may carry a fairly big roster for the first part of the season, at least until this NHL mess gets sorted out one way or another.
@Burtonboy hmmm, Bozak and John Michael Liles posted something recently…..some players seems more dedicated to using twitter…IE Kessel….I follow him, I think hes tweeted a combined total of 2 times ever.
