Marlies kick off 3-game weekend in Hamilton

Let’s move on from the depressing CBA talk to the Marlies, whose league isn’t locked out and who play three games in three nights this weekend against Hamilton (B2B) and Grand Rapids. Unfortunately tonight’s game hasn’t been picked up by any of Leafs TV, Sportsnet or TSN Radio, but you can buy a stream to the game over at AHL live for $7, listen in on am820 Hamilton starting at 7:30 p.m., or there’s always the option of following along on Twitter. Sportsnet One is showing tomorrow’s game, Leafs TV has Sunday’s and both will be broadcast on TSN Radio.

We got some good news today on the Matt Frattin front. According to Jon Abbott, he skated in full gear this morning at the Ricoh before the team departed for Hamilton for their first of 12 meetings with the Bulldogs.

Dallas Eakins will go with the same 12 forwards but has four new line combinations up front for tonight’s game after his team was shut out last Sunday against Lake Erie. Hamilton and Zigomanis will flank Aucoin while Kadri shifts onto a line with Colborne and Komarov.

Lines (Clayton Hansler):

FOWARDS

Hamilton – Aucoin – Zigomanis
Kadri – Colborne – Komarov
Ashton – McKegg – Scott
D’Amigo – Acton – Deschamps

DEFENCE (Game Time Decision)

Gardiner – Kostka
Fraser – Holzer
Gysbers – Yeo
Blacker

That line of Kadri, Colborne and Komarov has my interest, as I’m sure it does yours for obvious reasons.

Ben Scrivens will start in net tonight. Dallas Eakins has hinted all three of Scrivens, Jussi Rynnas and Mark Owuya will see action in the Marlies’ first of five back-to-back-to-back weekends.

The Marlies beat the Bulldogs by a combined score of 5-1 in two preseason games earlier this month. Here are a few other matchup details courtesy of  Clayton Hansler (his full preview here):

  • Greg Scott scored six goals against the Bulldogs last season, plus the game winner during the preseason
  • Toronto’s power play operated at a 20.9% efficiency against Hamilton last season
  • Ben Scrivens notched a 6-3 record against the Bulldogs with a goals against average of 2.0 last season
  • Toronto has yet to register an even-strength goal, having scored all three on the powerplay so far

Yeah those meatheads on the Botttom 6 (including Ross) would make me a happy Leafs fan again.

If I were the Avs, I would do everything in my power to tank hard this year.  If they finish in the bottom 3 and end up with MacKinnon, Monahan or Jones, they are going to have a brilliant core moving forward.  I see Duchene and Landeskog being the key pieces of that core.  But you never know, I suppose…

Yep…..no idea where it went….maybe MacA was nursing an injury last year, of maybe he’s a pussy.  Either way, he didn’t perform up to the standard he set in his first year here.

Fair enough. It is tough to get a good read on what the Leafs really think. I agree with bob and yourself that he would have been moved already, but who knows? I will be very disappointed if they were to trade him without a significant chance to play with our skill guys.

Kulemin: size, intelligence, two-way skill, and the fact that MacArthur’s skill set is more easily replaceable.  Wingers like him go to UFA every year.  Rarely do you see large two-way wingers on the market.

    Dream scenario for next summer:
    -
Grabovski + Kulemin + for BENN
    -
    Sign GETZLAF and PERRY
    -
    j.v.r. – getzlaf – perry
    lupul – benn – kessel
    -
Who is going to stop that? lol

Not much bro, at work atm waiting for 4 pm and Molson Time. If we are going to keep Kadri as a winger and develop Colburne as the Center then I would probably move Kadri for Ryan. Reasons Are as Follows.
    - Ryan is only 25 and has  4, 30 plus goal seasons
    - He was a plus player in each of those years
    - he is 6 2 210 pounds and will use his size
    - He is a 2nd over all pick, just like JVR and it looks Neat to have 2 wingers on the same line with that Credential lol
    - He produces in main events, in the last 2 playoffs ANH made he is
17 games with 8 goals and 3 apples and plus 2
He played great in the WC and has a Silver Medal in the Olympics

No offense bro but if Kadri even came close to this kind of Production we would be Estatic, Take the 25 year old sure thing.

Perry lives in London in the off season and I always thought that might be an indicator he would come to play in Ontario (Toronto).  I recall a post on here to the effect he did not want to play in Toronto. I was talking to someone recently who knows him fairly well and he didn’t want to say too much but I got the clear impression that Toronto was not too likely. FWIW.

With the new CBA, who knows?  The landscape could change dramatically if there’s an entire year of lockout.

JVR and Ryan would make me very pleased.  I get this Kadri sense that he will go the way of Robbie Schremp.

Of course.  I think, as always, that we have as good a chance at Getzlaf as anyone, but I think Perry will stay in Anaheim.  Question though, if Benn doesn’t want to resign in Dallas for whatever reason, would you move two core pieces to bring him here?

Geez, you put a lot of work into that, I almost feel bad for still saying no. No disputing his credentials, but I want a homegrown guy who can bring me out of my seat. Just my preference.
