Despite this being “the most important week of negotiations”, there’s been basically nothing in terms of CBA/lockout news since last Thursday. It’s nothing to panic about; after reading the solid material Mirtle at the Globe and mc79 have pumped out over the past few days, I’m pretty confident that we’ll see a resolution to this whole thing soon. But until we do, let’s enjoy the news and notes from other leagues, as well as a few history lessons and another look at how the Leafs may fare when this lockout ends.

Kyle the Reporter has some notes about the Marlies this week in his regular hot and cold article.

Michael at Vintage Leaf Memories asks “What’s your first ever true “blue and white” Leafs’ memory?”

According to the Gazette, Leafs fans have voted Bower the best goalie in team history.

Cam at The Leafs Nation discusses whether the team is well-positioned for the new NHL when this lockout ends.

Blue Chip Prospects takes a closer look at Captain Dion.

And lastly, Clarke MacArthur will join a team in 2nd Bundesliga of Germany.

He just retired, but he’d look great in black and gold whiffing on Kessel snappers.

“At best he’s a third line plug good for 30 points or so on a playoff team, exactly what he was in Buffalo.”

Because players who are “at best third line plugs” finish second on their team in production and lead the team in assists? (2010-11) No, at best MacArthur is the player that got 62 points two years ago. Tied for 38th in league scoring playing 17 minutes a game.

Only 38th in scoring ? What a plug.  We’d be lucky to get Byron Bitz for him.

That’s irrelevant to the quality of a player. Is Tavares a third line plug?

He had a slight groin pull last year and now it seems he has another one. That not a good sign for a young goalie if you ask me

He also had the best +/- on the team in the last 20 games.

Although Mac did have his ups and downs (as did the majority of the boys) he’s the least of our worries.

But it’s not irrelevant to my post which you quoted

And please do not bring Tavares into this, that would be just plain silly

MacA, Kule and Grabo were the best line in the NHL for quite a while and MacA was playing a huge role is said success.  Sorry Keon.  I respectfully disagree with your assesment of Clarke.

Whether the Leafs made the play-offs is completely irrelevant to how good a player is.

That’s fine and I was a supporter of MacArthur during the time when that line was going well. However, I saw a much weaker effort from MacArthur last year and it pissed me off. To me he played for his contract then didn’t put the same level of effort in to his play after he got bigger money, not something I like to see.

And MacA is the only one of our top 6 who will throw down in a heart beat.  I love MacA and hope he stays on to continue the success he Kulemin and Grabo have created together.  There is no reason these 3 can’t return to the top of the league.

Actually it is, because if he was better and had put forth a better effort, especially over the last quarter if the season, maybe they would have made the playoffs.

Where were the Leafs when he had 9 goals by the end of November? Then where were the Leafs when he shit the bed during the last quarter? Not saying it was entirely his fault, but his lack of contribution and poor overall play was a big factor in their slide.

The same could be said for just about the whole team.  It was a pathetic season last year and MacA wasn’t the only one under performing.

All players go through slumps or periods of ineffectiveness.  I fully expect MacA and Kulemeister to rebound in a big way.  I’m not disagreeing with the fact he didn’t play great.  I’m disagreeing with your overall assessment that he’s a 3rd line plug.
