NHL to PA: “Let’s give them something to talk about”

It looks like the NHL and Players Association are ready to resume talks this week (most likely Tuesday), and now we can briefly have hope again.

Certainly, a marathon talk between Bill Daly and Steve Fehr is a good start, and it gives even more reason for optimism that nothing was leaked from this meeting.

Where I lose some of my optimism is in a) the fact that this deal will rely on Jeremy Jacobs’ ability to compromise, and b) we live in a world where players value the opinion of clowns like Allan Walsh.

Neither side is content to reach the compromise we all envision for them, and both sides will need to let go of this “trying to win” philosophy that has cost them a quarter of a seasons revenue.

I’ll cap this rant early, but root for radio silence on both sides (an understandable challenge for the PA with 700+ members).

Lockout will affect World Junior Team Roster
There could be a few more Leafs in the mix if players like Nugent-Hopkins, Huberdeau, D.Hamilton, R.Murphy and Strome weren’t locks for the team.

Toronto Maple Leafs prospect Garret Sparks eyes Team USA
Sparks is considered by many to be the best bet for the backup job on the junior team. If he has a few more games like the one last Friday, he’ll be a lock.

Bailey’s works well, especially waking up to Snow on the Ground BB, although I did peg my daughter with a snowball for being so cheerful about it lol

He has a hell of a sense of humour . I highly doubt he’s egotistical . He was the Captain of the Canucks so I’m sure he’s very respected in that room . Wrong move making a goalie Captian IMO but it does speak to his leadership abilities

Ha, I am on your team, although its driving in Snow that I have a problem with. If I did not have to face the idiots on the Road driving in snow, then I would warm up to winter I think.

Don’t blame you one bit . I had 45 yrs of the cold and snow and I don’t miss it one bit. Just right here in NB. Little bit of winter and lots of good weather for 6 months of the yr.

We pick our scapegoats, too.  I’d say the biggest difference is in the kind of players we choose to bash.  If Luongo came here and only gave us slightly above average goaltending, nobody would care.  We’re not a goalie hating market.  However, if Rick Nash had come here, and everyone discovered that he actually wasn’t Wendel and Dougie’s lovechild, I believe this fan base would have turned on him very quickly.  We grossly over-value “grit”, and we love us our powerforwards.

But yea, we’re pretty harsh on management too.  For good reason when you look at the comedy of errors we had before Burke (and even he’s had a speedbump or three).  In VAN, Gillis gets a free pass just for managing to hold together a team that Burke built.  And now he can’t even do that.
