The now-surging Marlies finish up their eight-game road trip tonight in Hamilton before returning for the back half of the home and home against the Bulldogs tomorrow at the Ricoh (tickets). The Marlies finish up the weekend by hosting Abbotsford on Sunday (tickets).

The big news in Marlie land today is that of Matt Frattin‘s return to the lineup after an off-season of rehab following knee surgery. Don’t expect immediate dividends, but Frattin made a mockery of AHL goaltenders in the Marlies Calder Cup run to the tune of 10 goals, his tenth being the play that ended his 2011-12 season. It’s a welcomed addition and a rare case of a player benefiting from this lockout situation – he’ll have time to get his game back in shape before someone else can take his spot on the Leafs.

It’s also a welcomed addition in the sense that the Marlies may soon lose their top goal scoring forward. Leo Komarov, scorer of four goals in his last three games, remains with the organization for now as the Leafs look into whether or not he can both head back to the KHL and return to Toronto to play in the NHL should the lockout end. If it checks out, Komarov will head back to Moscow Dynamo, where he’s played the last three seasons. It’s a loss for the Marlies, but from an individual development standpoint Komarov has proved his point in his brief stint in the AHL to start the season and is probably better off playing against KHL competition for now.

Ben Scrivens goes in net tonight, with Mark Owuya likely to take reigns tomorrow as Rynnas is banged up from practice.

The bloody picture alone on the front of TSN is all you need to know about this stupid sport of monkey fights.  What a low end blood sport.

And yes GSP is the best in the world at a sport that ought to be banned in every country of the world.  Its no different that dog fighting or cock fighting, except we use people.

Every one of those ‘athletes’ will suffer multiple concussions and die  in their 60s at the latest.

Just noticed that he hasn’t played the past couple of games for the Storm.

Morning Blue, Congrats to GSP, he is awesome, however he will get his ass handed to him by a Much Bigger Anderson Silva. I am actually worried about this fight. And I have not been worried for GSP since his 2004 fight against Matt Hughes, Point in fact he had that Fight, huge upset almost, but he made a rookie mistake, and got caught in an armbar

He is 6 2, he may cut to 185, but Silva walks around much heavier I would bet. GSP is used to having Reach, and Size in his Fights, he is at a severe dis-advantage in this one. But Hell that’s what makes him a Great Champion, He will take the Risk Fights, He wants to Fight the Best Fighters and screw his win loss record

    Props to GSP

I train Peter, and its my choice. Dogs and Cocks dont have a Choice, we DO !  As to Concussions you are a Hockey fan and cheer good Hits, yet you are slamming competitive Fighting ? What about Football ? and Tennis *-* Thats not really Fair Peter.

And Peter some may Die in their 60′s but there is something to be said for How you Live, not how you Die, playing it Safe your whole life and Living till 80 still still makes you look back and say I have done Fuck all.

To each there own MB. I’m not a fan of MMA nor am I fan of extreme violence in hockey like Sortinni did last night. I do like hard nosed competition but there is a point where I draw the line

MB, I agree wholeheartedly with you that you do have a choice.  I watch and enjoy MMA too.  However, I just wish to caution anyone, as someone who has had several concussions – some diagnosed, some not – that your quality of life does indeed suffer at an earlier age. I have lived through years of issues directly relating to that (vertigo, debilitating headaches, light sensitivity just to name a few), and they were as a direct cause of the choices.  If I knew then what I know now, I guarantee that I would have made very different choices then.  I can’t do some things with my kids that other dads do, and believe me, that is absolutely not worth it to me now.

By the time you realize any damage is done, it is far too late….and in the process you’ve robbed your friends and family of who are, and who you could (and should) have been.
