Marlies Weekend Open Thread
Toronto Marlies defeat the Oklahoma City Barons 6-5 in OT
Share

The 9-6-0-1 Marlies (5th in the Western Conference) are in Wilkes Barre tonight to play the Penguins (7 p.m., AHL Live) before heading to Hershey for a 5 p.m. puck drop tomorrow.

From Clayton Hansler:

Ben Scrivens is to get the nod in goal marking the netminder’s fifth straight start. Other lineup changes could see Korbinian Holzer and Greg McKegg draw out of the lineup as Simon Gysbers and Kenny Ryan are rotated in.

I thought the players came off their insistence on being guaranteed the 1.8 or 1.9 billion they got last year.

The way it looked to me the owners wanted:

    50%, 50%, 50%, 50%, 50%, and 50% in a 6 year deal.

and the players wanted something like:

    54%, 52%, 51%, 50.1%, 50% in a 5 year deal.

If the owners took that deal, then moved Phoenix to Seattle, then took in around $500 million in expansion money for Quebec City and Markham, and increased revenue sharing to the $200 million or so that they offered, they should be able to stop the bleeding in the short run, then be in better shape as time goes on, as their percentage increases to 50%.

Widening the gap between the cap and the floor by pegging the floor to a percentage would also go a long way towards relieving the pain for small market teams as HRR increases.

K2L: You need to tweet Dallas and tell him to glue Scrivens to the crease.

“I don’t know..the players want to hang on to a lop sided percentage of revenues…a percentage that even they admit was way too much…the owners took it on the chin the last 7 years…and the players want it to continue for a few more years on top of that…add in this nonsense about covering there losses due to the lockout and standing pat on player contract issues..and  I really start to wonder who’s really being unreasonable here..”

So much wrong here, hard to know where to start.

    - Their % is what the Owners agreed to in order to get a Cap. Having said that, they’re willing to bring it down to 50/50…costing them millions.

    - The Owners have NOT taken it on the chin the last 7 years, their revenues are way up as well as the players’ salaries. The game has never been more successful.

    - The Players, understandably, want the roll back to be spread over 3 years…rather than be immediate.

    - The PA said weeks ago that they would expect their share to be reduced for this year since the revenues will be much less.

    - They have also said they will negotiate the Contract Issues, but not until they know how the HRR split will work out.

I know you’re firmly in the Owners’ corner, but try and get it a little more accurate when passing judgement.

May be controlling, but the shots are reasonably weak IMO.

If the refs called that game by today`s standards, the Flyers would have spent the entire game two men short, and the Russians would have won 20 to nothing.

This little clause that the PA included in their offer is throwing a major monkey wrench into the whole thing right at the moment .

“- In years two through five of this Agreement, the players’ share in dollars may not be less than it was in the previous year.”

Yeah I know…but it’s quibbling on the part of the Owners because revenues aren’t going to drop in those years. But they see it as the PA disconnecting salaries from revenues.
