Honest question: Were there any Canadian mediators in this NHL/NHLPA session? They invented the sport, should have some say-so here.
Isn’t he likely out against the best on the other team and also logging big time minutes which increases his odds of being on the ice when a goal is scored.
Of course he would, but that’s exactly why it wouldn’t work. He would have to be completely disassociated from the talks, if any, or it would not work.

NHL awaiting NHLPA’s response to offer of having owners/players only in next bargaining session… whenever that is.
Greg Wyshynski @wyshynski
I don’t to say the NHL/NHLPA frustrated the federal mediators, but they’ve all requested a transfer to Gaza.
Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Bettman proposed to Fehr and PA an owner-payer mtng only. No NHL or NHLPA brass. Fehr and PA are believed to be considering.
When the PA Hired Fehr; They didnt know they were getting a Suicide Bomber!
Blow it up Good Don! But hey you dont care! Your legacy is intact!!!
I ‘m pretty sure legislators never intended for those laws to be used as negotiation tactics . Its meant to protect the rank and file from being represented by people they don’t trust or disagree with . Conversely disclaiming interest was probably put in place to allow the leadership to walk away from workers if they so choose to. Problem is its really difficult to change or remove any laws of this nature even if they are being used for something they were never intended to be used for, IMO we are headed for the courts
Will the owners include Jacobs in this Players-Owners meeting only? I would hope they would have players and non negotiation owners to battle this out. Sort of neutrals trying to redeem an impossible situation.
Darren Dreger @DarrenDreger
Not all owners would be included in this owner-player meeting. Hasn’t been determined. Not sure why either side wouldn’t welcome this.
That would be really interesting. Things would either get better in a hurry or way worse if that’s even possible.

Mediators are done, now bring on the meteors
I have my doubts the PA would agree to this but who knows . This lockout is one strange mofo
Jason Brough @JasonPHT
Not sure Bettman should trust the owners to meet the players by themselves. Probably end up signing Kevin Westgarth to a 14-year deal.
This CBA process will be studied for many years on how not to do it.
We need Burkie there on behalf of MLSE so he can rub shoulders with Tavares and get a verbal commitment to become a Leaf at the end of his contract.
Simple – have no Fehr!
LOL over reaction much . Normal course of events in the NFL
ryan lambert @twolinepass
exactly. RT @NYP_Brooksie: For its next trick, NHL proposes that players negotiate their own contracts without representation from agents.
Is there an NFL team in Colorado?
Don’t have a basketball guy negotiating with a baseball guy. And sprinkle in a Canadian or two.
Shorter Bettman: “Just owners and players should meet, like when Gordie Howe and Jack Adams used to do contracts.” Amazing.
What is interesting to me is the owners have not shut the season down, but have invited a new format. Only way I read this is there is a desire by some to have a season.
With that antique QB?
