Leafs Abroad: Kulemin, Komarov, Grabovski coping well with lockout
Share

Here’s a Leafs positive in this lockout – watching Mikhail Grabovski, Nikolai Kulemin and Leo Komarov play (on the same lines) and produce alongside the likes of Pavel Datsyuk, Evgeni Malkin, Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom over in the KHL. Provided they don’t end up seriously injured, it can only bode well for those three whenever Leafs hockey gets underway again.

After the jump are the latest KHL highlights courtesy of Steve Dangle:

Grabovski scores in a 4-1 Red Army win:

Kulemin and Malkin tearing it up in a 7-2 win by the dominant Magnitogorsk:

Komarov, playing on a line with Backstrom and Ovechkin, scores in a 3-1 Dynamo Moscow win:

I actually hope that when all is said and done that Bettman steps down (or fired).  If he were replaced by Daly, I could see relocation being addressed.

Bang on BB. Owners are holding the leverage. This one is in the bag. What ever deal is finally signed will likely end up being something that could have been completed prior to the season. I think the players blew it when they turfed Paul Kelly.

Bboy:  Here’s a telling paragraph concerning MLB, Fehr and 94/95, from a link you posted earlier.

“It was an important agreement because it stabilized the industry and removed some of the ideological issues from the table, which allowed the next agreement to focus on the economics and led to a much more cooperative relationship between the players’ association and the clubs,” said Randy Levine, who negotiated the deal for baseball management, then became president of the New York Yankees.”

Also operating revenue had already returned to previous levels by 1997. (from the same article) Players salaries went up as well and the owners made more money.

Never liked that song (though there are a couple gems on that album).  He had some killer stuff between 1980 and 1987 (after that he went a little kookoo).

I’ve no doubt the owners and the NHL will come out stronger on the other side of this stoppage just as they did the last one. These guys aren’t at all worried about the things you mentioned (money or marketing). They’re thinking long term and the right deal is more important long term than this season is.

Edit: This was one of Fehr’s miscalculations…

Josh Rimer ‏@JoshRimerHockeyRoenick, “I’m scared for the game right now. There’s a lot of angry business people who are associated with the game.”
