Leafs Abroad: Kulemin, Komarov, Grabovski coping well with lockout
Share

Here’s a Leafs positive in this lockout – watching Mikhail Grabovski, Nikolai Kulemin and Leo Komarov play (on the same lines) and produce alongside the likes of Pavel Datsyuk, Evgeni Malkin, Alex Ovechkin and Nicklas Backstrom over in the KHL. Provided they don’t end up seriously injured, it can only bode well for those three whenever Leafs hockey gets underway again.

After the jump are the latest KHL highlights courtesy of Steve Dangle:

Grabovski scores in a 4-1 Red Army win:

Kulemin and Malkin tearing it up in a 7-2 win by the dominant Magnitogorsk:

Komarov, playing on a line with Backstrom and Ovechkin, scores in a 3-1 Dynamo Moscow win:

Drop everything. County records show the Florida Panthers have actually made a $114 million profit over the past 12 years, and evenly distributed year by year.

Yes I did. I’m not sure what point you’re making. Was the sport hurt by a labour stoppage? Yes. No big news there. But it started climbing back immediately.

it took 12 yrs to get back to the same gate levels it enjoyed before . My point is simple . The labour peace thy now enjoy is because both side realized the damage they were doing rather then some magic pill that Don Ferhr came up with .

And what did he say at the end of the article ?

“However, with that said the above piece at times confuses the financial data for the arena operating company with the financial data for Sunrise Sports and Entertainment, due to my misreading portions of the audit. That’s an important distinction to make, and one that I failed to make in my reading of the audit. ‘

Marvin Miller forced all pro sports out off the dark ages. That why restrictions on contract length and mobility are such points of contention

The NHL HAS THEIR CAP AND 50/50 revenue split. Now they want to start stepping back into the dark ages when it comes to contract rights.

Jimmy D,S cattle comments are more indicative of how the hawks feel than people realize

    Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie
…@capgeek said 89 players currently are on contracts longer than 5 years.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzieBut of those 89, just over half are on 6 or 7 yr deals signed as UFA or RFA with their own club.Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzieSo it’s obviously a projection, but 5 yr term limits on contracts could conceivably only apply to just over 40 players.

BB, the owners hired an asshole to represent them 20 years ago. Now they have their panties in a bunch, because the players hired a bigger asshole to represent them

What goes around comes around. I dont have much sympathy for the players, but none for the owners

Was just going to say, looks like McKenzie has figured out the math.  Less than 6% of contracts effected by NHL’s 5 yr rule.  Granted, they are significant contracts – guys like Parise, Suter, Crosby, Kovalchuk, Luongo, etc…

So why is it such a big issue to either side. Its all about control and the players think the league wants too much

It doesn’t really limit their earning potential to limit their contracts from the 10 year range to 7 years though.  It just means that if you want those star players, you’ll have to pay for it on the cap.

Yea, well I can see why with the long history of bad blood between the two sides, but I really think that’s all largely a thing of the past.  I see this as a legitimate way to better the product.  This would stop teams from stacking their rosters and encourage UFAs to test the market and see if anyone is willing to commit a bigger chunk of cap to them. I could definitely be wrong, because the 7yr for own team thing might ruin it, but I see this as potentially reviving free agency – which in and of itself is a huge boost for the league.

Which would bring down salaries because you do still have to fill out your roster with serviceable players. The 10% of the cap for salaries would still be in effect no?

There aren’t any Knights in shinning armour involved in this one for sure.

They are too close to let this fall through the cracks. But the animosity is building

and  is  poisoning the whole process.

Bob McKenzie ‏@TSNBobMcKenzie…Why would the PA be so adamantly opposed to 5 yr term limit when it affects so few, relatively speaking, of the membership.

All the players follow MacKenzie . Its gonna spike some interest for sure

Agreed, they need to make player movement an actual occurance once again. Those big deals and such make the fan base of each team take notice and in turn sell jerseys etc.

Right, but there are tons of teams that would love to sign a big UFA and just haven’t been able to.  Boo hoo, your first options of Detroit, NY and whoever the cup favorite is are too stacked to add you at a salary that you like – then go to fucking Calgary, or Edmonton, or Winnipeg, or Colorado, or the Island, or hell…Toronto.

They 94% don’t fight it but the 6% who have those contracts are the Toews, Crosby, Louongo and they are the hardliners in the PA…and Fehr reports to them…regardless of what people say Fehr reports to the top 10% not the bottom 90%
