That’s a nice turntable.  I own a Thorens myself (bought it used 20 years ago…and it was 20 years old when I bought it).   Heavy sucker!!  I like turntables with metal plates and a lot of weight.

Yea I heard they are durable.

I’d go with an oldie but a goodie…well before I went new.  Older turntables are the good ones (imo).  Thing is though, as you’ve pointed out, any little thing could go wrong with a used unit.  Best advice I would give is to go and check it out…bring a few albums…give her a test run.  If she’s good to go…do the deal.  Thorens are fantastic turntables.  I just checked out their website…apparently they are still in business (upper scale units).

I had no idea Thorens was still making them to be honest. Like I said, mine is close to 40 years old (if not older).  Nice woodgrain panels…metal plate…threaded balancing…the works.

I sold my pvr to the first caller a few weeks back. lol

No way I am even attempting to play these new beatles until I get a really good turntable.

DTS sound on the new batman was awesome, did you get your receiver yet?  

Not yet, no.  I was waiting for the 2012′s to be released…which Yamaha finally released last month.  I’m planning on checking them out after Boxing Day to see if I can put a deal together on the top unit.  Thing is, this specific line of Yammys is their upper scale line…which are not widely available at your average stereo shop / Future Shop….only certain stores are licensed to carry it.  So, my options are limited in being able to negotiate.  It retails for $2200 plus tax…..and I’m hoping to pick it up for 2K including tax.  I will finally have 100% true surround soon.
