The Toronto Marlies look to continue their strong play of late (1st in the Western Conference) as they face-off against the slumping Hamilton Bulldogs. Toronto leads the season series 4-2 over Hamilton.

From Marlies.ca

The Toronto Marlies earned three out of a possible four points this past week. On Friday night in Michigan, the Marlies fell to the Grand Rapids Griffins, AHL affiliate of the Detroit Red Wings, by a score of 3-2 in a shootout. Will Acton and Matt Frattin recorded goals for Toronto in regulation and Ben Scrivens stopped 24 of 26 shots. The Griffins managed two goals in the shootout, while Joe Colborne registered the only tally for Toronto. Saturday night marked the second half of a back-to-back between the two teams. Toronto defeated Grand Rapids by a score of 3-1 at the Van Andel arena. Ryan Hamilton had his third multi-goal game of the season and Carter Ashton added the other tally for Toronto. Jussi Rynnas made 27 saves to earn his fifth victory of the year.

  • Head Coach Dallas Eakins will return to the AHL AllStar game for the second time in as many seasons. He was an assistant coach for Oklahoma City’s Todd Nelson last year

  • Keith Aucoin ranks sixth (tie) in AHL points (32) and second (tie) in AHL assists (25)
  • Mike Kostka ranks third in AHL powerplay assists (12)
  • Toronto has not lost back-to-back games since November 25

Toronto plays host to the Hamilton Bulldogs, AHL affiliate of the Montreal Canadiens, tonight at Ricoh Coliseum. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. Toronto has posted a record of 4-2-0-0 against Hamilton so far this season. Gabriel Dumont and Brendan Gallagher lead the Bulldogs in points with 18 in 31 games. On Saturday afternoon, Toronto will play host to the Rockford IceHogs, AHL affiliate of the Chicago Blackhawks, at 3 p.m.

Martin St. Pierre leads the IceHogs in points with 30 in 33 games. Rockford currently ranks eighth in the Western Conference with 36 points.

In their last game of the week, the Marlies travel to Hamilton for a Tuesday night game with the Bulldogs. Puck drop is set for 7:30 p.m. The game will mark the eighth of 12 meetings between the two teams this season.

Yea, that won’t change this year after being off for 9 months and rarely training.

There is still the issue of what to do with either Scrivens or Reimer if we actually do get Luongo.  I still believe Scrivens won’t clear waivers.  Someone will suffer an injury to a goalie and snag Scrivens.

He said on Twitter today that he would characterize his off-season training as “yeastmode” lol

Someone may just want to snag him because they see very good things ahead for him.

Burke will try to include either Reimer or Scrivens in the trade for Lou (if I’m not mistaken, Lack is injured at the moment so he won’t be able to backup Schneider out of the gate).  Failing that…Burke would trade one of them.  He won’t lost Scrivens (or Reimer) for nothing.

Just so everyone knows, the disclaimer of interest deadline tonight is just a PA deadline and has nothing to do with the legal process. The players could take another vote tomorrow on it.

WTF is yeastmode??  Does that mean he’s drinking a lot of beer??  Do goalies typically work out a lot during the offseason??

Sure, but a re-vote would lend credence to the PA only using it as leverage (and many think a judge would throw it out on that basis even with this first vote).  A 2nd vote wouldn’t bode well for the PA’s chances if it were to go that route.

id say they should be, if your not practising you probably lose your edge, especially as a goalie. I know Steve Mason has been skating with other NHL’rs on a regular basis here in town….

Yes, goalies should be in fantastic shape to do what they do.  He was probably partially joking, but I suspect a large portion of the NHL will not be in game shape for most of the season – assuming we have one.

I was pretty surprised by how strong the Burke hatred is there.  Fans literally despise the man.  Pretty disappointing to see how horribly ill informed the casual Star reader is.

Depends if they file it in New York or in California. They’re only lower courts anyway, so the first ruling would be subject to multiple levels of appeals anyway. Apparently the PA has some validity to its claim because a number of owners were stupid to pipe up in earlier negotiations about how “if Fehr is in the room it’s a deal breaker.” Players could argue owners were refusing to negotiate with their legally selected union head.

I don’t believe they would need to re-vote if they decided not to file tonight.

That what the talking heads are saying in the media.  If they don’t file tonight…they would have to re-vote.

Can’t think of a time since I’ve been a Leaf fan where the Leafs have been as well placed as a complete organization as they are right now. Casual fans are not well informed, but you also have to be able to draw your own conclusions on how things are shaping up. What the Marlies are doing right now is a) impressive and b) extremely important for the Leafs in general. It all starts there.

So true. Burke can go a long way to cementing a legacy with some nifty wheeling and dealing coming out of this CBA. The lower the cap the better off Burke is going to look.

I think we need a couple things to go our way and fans will start to come around.  Getting Luongo for peanuts, snagging a decent player who falls through the cracks thanks to this cap contraction (ie. Horton, Clowe), and having a couple prospects like Kadri and Rielly make a difference of some kind….would go a long way to restoring fan faith.

Burke and Nonis want the Marlies to be a direct arm of the leafs development system. They are much more important to the organization now then ever before and we can see the work being put into the team.
