I used up all my lockout glee in yesterday’s post (feel free to read it here) so here’s a collection of links around the interwebs covering the one on and only topic that matters today, the return of the NHL.

The 7 most immediate questions now that NHL lockout is over
Sean Leahy takes a look at what to watch for as hockey gets underway. Of course Luongo rumours make an appearance on the list.

The NHL returns; looking at the Maple Leaf roster—tweaks, predictions and player ratings Part I: Today, the back end
Michael begins previewing and dissecting the Leafs roster. On a day filled with optimism this is a healthy dose of reality that there are huge holes in the Leafs roster.

Plan A or Plan B
Hope in the Big Smoke is already pumped for what the Leafs could be up to this summer and is as anxious as the rest of us to see how the Leafs roster shakes out.

Leafs coach Randy Carlyle: ‘Great day for hockey
The Sun reaches out to the Leafs head coach on what his plans are for getting his team together.

Luongo to Maple Leafs gaining momentum
The Sun again with the most popular rumour.

NHL Lockout: Highlights of the NHL- NHLPA Tentative Deal
A few interesting points that I didn’t touch on yesterday; One way Contracts and AHL contracts in excess of $375,000 will count against the cap even if the player is playing in the AHL, the possible trade deadline is April 5th, and this year’s free agency period could begin on July 5th. Also not mentioned here is that there will be an interview period prior to free agency.

What gets me is that the issues have been well documented and debated for months…remember…several proposals from both sides went back and fourth…..and it was numerical figures changing in most cases..not wording…ie…dollar amounts for the cap and salary retention? number of years for contract terms and CBA length..most changes should be related to numerical values….

PS: Btw, a defensive effort like that would be outstanding! Its hard to say though, the majority of the Habs squad has stayed together and practiced through the lockout. Have our boys done the same??

Would consider moving Kulemin to that line.

    Komorov – McClement – Kulemin

They could create all kinds of problems for any top line in the league. If the other team top line is not defensively aware they would be punished.

Agreed, totally silly and forced upon lou in New Jersey, the guy doesn’t fit the Devils mold of a player but oh well, better them than us.

I have been thinking about that as well, but I would like Carlyle to use Grabos speed and puck-carrying abilities with JVR and new right wing.

Komorov and Kulemin have been almost point per game players in KHL so they could punish any top line while shutting them down.

i kinda wanted no season because i think our future is a year off still and playing this year will drop us in the draft (our of lottery range)..

but, starting the year gives us the chance to do something with expiring contracts (Mac, Lupul, Connolly, Lombardi ???  is that accurate?).  i know some of these guys are hated, but they might be worth something to another team.  not losing the year means they’re still assets.  think Lupul or Mac get extended?  any note on the timeframes, like trade deadline?

like someone else suggested, there looks like a lot of opportunity for player movement (what better way for the league to generate that immediate fan excitement after the layoff).
