Watch the full press conference after the jump.
Bell actually convinced Rogers over the last couple of months…thats all it took..but yeh…how that arrangement works over the longterm is anyones guess..
I highly doubt it hearing Burke’s comments today. He mentions Tannenbaum several times and Lastman was in attendance. Tannenbaum also said that is was a “board” decision.
Well. He could have done what other GM’s do and not given a news conference at all. He could have just moved on. As for him being owed money, EVERY GM that is fired while under contract is owed money. I’m surprised your law firm buddies didn’t tell you that. His presser today proves he isn’t a “beaten dog”. If you followed the Leafs you would know Burke kisses noones ass. For somone who proclaims to know so much about him you truly know shit
I can see Tannenbaum and Lastman basically bowing to the wishes of Bell and Rogers..they hold 80% of ownership I believe…its thier baby…
Exactly. Like a break up when the one doing the breaking up says “we can still be friends”. Yeah……um no.
Frankly…I am kind of surprised people can’t read between the lines here..Burke is done with the Leafs completely…
I agree but Anselmi told Bob McCown that it was unanimous. Stupid for him to lie as that info would leak out.
Slagging a guy that just lost his job is a pretty big jerk move. Zezel was a hockey player that knows trades come with the job. I’m glad you can speak for all these “hockey guys”. Spew your heresay elsewhere
I wouldn’t doubt in the end it was unanimous….when the two biggest share holders vote for it and its going to go forward anyways usually the other voters come around to put fourth a united front…
Yes. He was high on his horse and didn’t believe he could get canned. Now he’s playing nice guy so he can get another job.
The hockey fraternity is real small and I think he’s nervous that he may have worn out his welcome and now he’s black balled.
I said it right after the new ownership group took over…it will be interesting to see how they interact with Burke and what they think of his management style….well…the answer came back loud and clear..they didn’t like it..
Why don’t you read my posts about Burke BEFORE he lost his job? I have been consistent in my criticism. People are getting hung up on the bad timing of this move rather than the substance.
Do you know anything about hockey? Do you know that guys like Lowe Gillis (widely reported) have bad blood with Burke?
Paleease…the ‘hockey fraternity’ sees the Leafs ownership as a bunch of boardroom buffoons.
I think you’re right.
Two of the worst corporate cultures in Canada are Bell and Rogers. Bell in particular is run by the tightest ass, blue blood types.
They are the polar opposite of a brash American.
So all GMs are supposed to like each other?
Besides, who is really responsible for the bad blood between Burke and Lowe?
I agree. The Leafs are known as an insane asylum. However, Burkie was part of it.
75 per cent I dobelive but point the same
I’m already protesting. No Leaf tickets for me this year, no jerseys or anything else Leaf related. I can’t quit being a fan, but I will voice my opinion anyway. If enough of us did it ( I know not likely ) it would matter to the people making the money. Not enough will, but I’ll keep my end up anyway.
Look – hockey managers are largely Canadian. They have a particular style, humility. Burkie did not. He was a stereotypical Northeastern American. Who do you think is more part of the hockey fraternity – Yzerman or Burke?
What does that have to do with it? Hockey Fraternity? You make it sound like Burke has only been around for 4 years. He’s been involved with the NHL or a franchise for 26 years
Look at his bullying nature. At his press conference:
“The best part of today is that I don’t have to talk to you again Steve”
Now I don’t like Steve Simmons but this is just an example of a guy who is a school yard bully. Not class
Yes because your post just screams of hockey knowledge. One guy is no longer a GM and the other can’t get along with other GMs. You keep spewing heresay about other peoples opinions.
Who was the guy on this board who first said the Lockout was over?
Not bad for “hearsay”
I have a comment waiting for approval that you need to read. However, I mention a certain ex-Leaf reporter, therefore it is being held up. Make sure you read it when it comes through, so you can learn a little.
