Looks like Toronto will remain sexy until 2018.

As per James Mirtle:

“Leafs sign Lupul to extension until 2018.”

More details on the deal as they become available.

Per TSN:

“Maple Leafs sign F Joffrey Lupul to five-year, $26.25 million contract extension through 2017-18 season.”

    HNIC generates far more revenue for them than that. If CBC lost the contract, they would either have to ask the feds for greater subsidies to cover the shortfall in revenues, or cut other programming.

    Similar to the situation with CBC in reguards to Toronto and Montreal. Political interference is the only reason they cover the lesser (Vancouver, Edmonton, Calgay, Ottawa, Winnipeg) teams so extensively.

    Good News, Bad News: Keeping HNIC is not a solution in itself. Adding to CBC’s problems is that the cost of a new NHL contract (presuming the package of TV and digital rights remains the same) is likely to be far more than the $100-million annual cost now paid. The NHL wants to seriously step up its national Canadian TV revenues in this cycle. It also is believed to want to diversify those rights across more than a single broadcaster.
    Which might be the bright spot for CBC. Sources tell Usual Suspects that the next national TV deal might look more like an NFL national contract, spread out across all the interested broadcasters. So, CBC might retain a Saturday HNIC package. But the NHL might also create another featured hockey night in the same way the NFL created the Sunday Football Night In America package on NBC (now the top TV program in U.S. TV).

     Yes i think if Kadri is still being consistent with his playing for 10 games or so, and if the 1st line struggles, Kadri will be put there to see if he clicks with kessel and lupul.

    Saying Komisarek has to go because of one good game by Kostka is pretty stupid. Wait till 20-25 games and see how hes doing, but without Komisarek our defence are too small, and not good on the PK. Dion cannot do everything
