From Sportsnet:

After the Toronto Maple Leafs let go Brian Burke, they could be interested in bringing in another big name to be the next president.

Sportsnet’ s Nick Kypreos confirmed an earlier tweet from Sportsnet 590 The Fan’s Bob McCown that Maple Leafs Sports & Entertainment has privately discussed bringing in Wayne Gretzky to the Maple Leafs front office.

Currently, Maple Leafs COO Tom Anselmi is listed as the team’s president. It remains unclear if MLSE would prefer someone with more of a hockey background.

Gretzky has not worked in the NHL since he left the Phoenix Coyotes in 2009. He spent nine years with the club as the alternate governor, managing partner, head of hockey operations, and head coach (2005-09).

The Leafs promoted Dave Nonis to general manager after the Leafs fired Burke Jan. 9, who was the team president during his tenure with the organization.

Just heard from a solid source that there is another Team in the Luongo Mix. Edmonton apparently has offered Sam Gagner, will Lou say yes?

Here’s how I fix the Oilers:
    -
Fire Tambellini and clear out the front office
    -
    Hire Burke
    -
Tank one more time and pick up Seth Jones
    -
To NSH: Yakupov, Whitney, 1st in 2014, Teubert
    To EDM: Weber
    -
To VAN: Gagner, 2nd in 2013
    To TOR: Luongo
    -
Burke fires the whole coaching staff and brings in Dallas Eakins.

Yeah…but to suck for THAT long….consistently the bottom of the barrel…ending up with that many #1 picks??  They keep sucking this bad and by time they are ready to finally compete….they won’t be able to afford their stars anymore.

And folks were on Burke’s back for not making the playoffs while he was here??  Too bad we don’t have Edmonton’s fans and owndership….Burke may still be here.

I don’t know. I’m sure they’d find a way, though. Hall and Eberle actually already have extensions starting next season at $6 million a year each.

Little bit of both.  Started off serious, then realized how terrible it would be, and what Burke would obviously try to do if he were there.  1) Get rid of the one-dimensional Russian, 2) Bring in familiar coach

Pretty easy.  You just stop paying Horcoff, Hemsky and Khabibulin.

look what happened with the Nordiques tanking took years but eventually they got a cup…in Colorado mind you and they had to trade Lindros to do it but it works…maybe Edmonton is looking at them as a plan

tank for a few years then move the team and win a cup

among the oilers i have hall, eberle, hopkins, and schultz. then kessel, skinner, bobby ryan. phaneuf, karlsson, weber.  rask, ward. its the cbc pool. schultz was next to nothing to grab so it was a no brainer.

Hall and Eberle get their first multiyear $6-million paycheques next year. Horcoff and Hemsky are at $5-million already.

i like it.   would work.  but we wouldn’t trade luongo for gagner and a 2nd.  that’s the only hole in my eyes.  other than that…..solid plan.

oh yeah, and obviously getting jones is not something you can guarantee will happen at all.

The Hawks pay Kane, Toews, Hossa, Sharp, Keith and Seabrook over $5 million each, and are a very good team. Their goalie isn’t even good.

I’m sure the Oilers can do the same with Eberle, Hall, RNH, Yakupov, Luongo and Schultz.

mines a 4 player keeper league ..was forced to drop Kane and Hall this past year
but got Duchesne and Landeskog so I’m happy that way..wether I win is another question tough 12 team league im in with some solid veteran hockey guys..going on 20 years together now

I do love your lineup of young talent ..can you imagine that is the your real team to watch
