Preview and GDT: Islanders at Leafs (7 p.m., LeafsTV)
Share

The Islanders are obviously a beatable opponent, but don’t face the same mental and physical challenges of a back to back cross-border scenario after a high-tempo game for the Leafs last night. The key for Carlyle’s team will be avoiding the let down coming off of the high in Pittsburgh.

Joffrey Lupul, reportedly out at least six weeks with the fractured forearm, has been given non-roster IR status and Matt Frattin has been called up from the Marlies shortly after being named as a replacement player in the AHL All-Star game. I’d guess Frattin will take over the wing beside Kadri and Komarov, MacArthur goes back in his usual spot with Grabovski and Kulemin, and James van Riesmdyk starts on the top line with Kessel and Lupul after the game he had last night. Maybe MacArthur plays top line LW and JvR stays with the second line that clicked last night. There was no formal practice today so we’ll have to wait and see.

A few notes on the opponent:

- Keith Aucoin returns to Toronto as an Islander tonight. He’s been centering their third line to start the season and actually playing the point on the powerplay.

- Kyle Okposo has moved to the top line RW position, in P.A. Parenteau’s spot, who they let go last off-season. He’s playing beside Matt Moulson and John Tavares. Each have two points through their first two games.

- Tavares will have family present and said yesterday that the ACC is his favourite place to play and the Leafs are his favourite team to beat. You may recall, however, the Leafs’ ended Tavares’ 12-game point streak a year ago today with a 3-0 shutout victory at the ACC. The Leafs beat the Islanders in three of four last season.

Official lineups and starters to come when available.

You’re nitpicking like a little girl. Ask any scout NOT working for the Leafs and ask him if Dion is #1 on most teams in the NHL?
Ask him – on a top ten team would Dion be on the first D pair or the second pair?

Ask those questions and get back to me.

    Borje.
Your comments litterally triple jump past ignorance!
Dion is one of a very few “elite” D men in the league who do everything!
His list of responsibilities is a mile high and he’s had a red headed step child supporting cast his entire time in Toronto!
Every other “stud” D man you have mentioned has a far superior supporting cast and goaltending that makes the leafs look like AA midget players.
Say something half way educated, you honestly sound like a high school kid with habs jerseys hanging in his closet!

I lost respect for Phaneuf tonight after not answering the bell on the questionable hit on Taveres.  This is how “rats are taking over the game”   Don’t like

They don’t pick players on teams that don’t make the playoffs.

Wtf I leave for hockey with the Leafs up 3-1 and after watching the Hilights its clear we need another goalie as scrivens is not the answer…..his look at his pads after a goal squeezed thru his five hole made me laugh…….he was awful tonight………

That might be Voting for Norris last season but i will tell you this.

Dion is better than Pietrangelo, Girardi and Hamhuis

Pietrangelo is a very good UP and coming D man but not that good yet.

Girardi is cant even tie dion’s skates

    Hamhuis- see above!!

I would choose Dion over Campbell too but i just had to point out the obvious 3

This will be an eye opener for the team Cameron. Last night was a perfect example of what this team can do when it plays RC’s system . Tonight was a perfect example of what happens when you don’t . Carlyle will drill this home tomorrow big time. Kadri and Fratts lite it up

Dion is not even a top pairing D man on the Habs.

But you believe that Dion is a top 2 D on San Jose? On Pittsburgh? On Vancouver? On ANY top ten team in NHL?

I take Pietrangelo over Dion any day of the week and twice on Sunday.  The others you are correct.

Enjoyed RC’s post-game presser. Thought he hit the nail on the head. No other way to explain it except two different teams from last night to tonight. Last night they competed, had energy, were physical, paid attention to detail, goalie gave them a chance, followed the system. Tonight? The total opposite. The way I see it…Last night was the RC team and tonight was the RW team. It’s a process, both the implementation of the new systems and the new culture.

LOL. Pietrangelo is a stud. Even the bozos who are arguing with me would trade Pietr for Dion straight up.

I’d choose Dion over Campbell too. But not Hamhuis.

If all dion had to do was score points, he would dominate.
If all he had to do was shit down the other teams best, result.
If all he had to do was be an enforcer, he would be one of the best.
If he had a legit partner and decent goaltending like most if not all of your noris trophy candidates have, he could do it all, while playing 25+ minutes.
There’s not a D man in the league that could do all that is asked of dion, night in and night out any better. He is a true, all around, elite D man. He just so happens to be stuck on a team that for all intensive purposes, sucks…. (Breaks my heat to say that)
Go troll somewhere else please, and allow us to have an educated discussion on how and why our team shit the bed.
