A little late on the news; we wanted to make sure you guys checked out the inaugural MLHS podcast.

Jake Gardiner has been sent down to the Toronto Marlies to rediscover his timing and confidence in the AHL. His poor decision making with the puck and numerous bobbles have been uncharacteristic to say the least, and James Mirtle makes the point that he’s just the latest in a line of Leafs who have shown even more rust than we expected coming off a concussion. A young player being sent down to get up to speed after a significant injury layoff is obviously nothing to worry about, at least not yet.

Meanwhile, I hope Mike Komisarek takes full advantage of his opportunity tomorrow night. For the first time since he got here, I can say with a straight face that, forgetting one costly penalty vs. the Pens, Komisarek deserves to be in the lineup. Maybe – okay, likely – he’s just been the beneficiary of some good timing when it comes the team’s performance in the two games he played versus the two he didn’t, but he’s nonetheless been a plus-three in around 15 minutes of ice time each game. His physical play, experience and tendency to stay close to home are qualities the Leafs blueline could use but it’s always a question of how many mistakes he’s going to make.

He’ll be returning to the lineup following a game in which none of the Leafs’ D looked good, especially not fellow fringe defenceman Cody Franson, who I thought played his worst game in a Leaf sweater with a direct hand in two goals against.

Ball’s in your court, Mike. Surprise us all.

Offer sheets are only half decent when you have some prospects in the cupboard.  Otherwise I think you keep the picks.  While we are desperately low in forward talent we can then package some players (D-men and other fowards in an attempt to obtain more picks or young talent)

It was a committee, but Gill did most of the heavy lifting.  Diaz was also counted on heavily in the shutdown role.

There is WAY to much forward talent in this coming draft to be giving up a 1st round pick on a offer sheet for PK Subann.

Because Montreal is not stupid (well actually they are but not THAT stoopid). They match the offer and trade PK to whomever they want for whatever they want.

But you could do it every second or third year when a really interesting player becomes available.

still forces their hand.  If we are true rivals then I think this is a nice shot fired over the bow of their ship.

Absolutely.  It would make the game more enjoyable from a trade/fans perspective.  Just my opinion.

I am aware of that, but here is the financial power of the Leafs that comes into the picture.

I doubt that Phoenix would match 25 million commitment, but of course the player have to be interested in coming to Toronto.

For OEL – all Swedish defenseman talk about Salming and Lidstrom.

Correct, he was, but he and Subban were a pairing.

Anyways, the point is, he did not play sheltered minutes

Not right away they can’t, I understand the habs predicament, they are way up against the cap next year so they need to be careful.

Last week we were all lusting over Jamie Ben. He signed now PK is the must have thing.

Aquiring PK by giving up a 1st plus in a year filled with top flight Centre prospects  makes no sense.

We have the prospects to make a good pitch to Mtl without risking that #1 pick
