Nazem Kadri was interviewed by the Canadian Press on Friday and was asked a number of questions about his hot start.

While praising Randy Carlyle for his open lines of communication with the young Maple Leaf, it was clearly a shot at former Toronto Maple Leaf head coach, Ron Wilson.

“Before I didn’t really get the impression that I was kind of wanted in the lineup or I really deserved the minutes that I may have gotten,” Kadri said following Friday’s practice. “With Randy it’s a whole different ballgame.”

“He makes me feel like I belong here and I can be a big contributor here and I feel like that as well. As a young guy I just needed others to believe in me as well.”

“I’ve had streaks before . . .but I don’t think right off the start I’ve come out like this,” Kadri said.

So can Kadri maintain his torrid pace?

“I’ll see what I can do,” he said with a chuckle.

“He [Carlyle] explains everything he does, even if you don’t get the minutes you want there’s an explanation for it, a reason for it,” Kadri said. “And he’ll come tell you personally, it’s not beating around the bush sending someone else to come preach.

“I just like the communication.”

The noted difference in positivity and the strong team play of the Leafs is credit to Carlyle and his coaching staff. Watching players come up with such relative ease from the AHL to the NHL speaks to the cohesion that Dallas Eakins and Randy Carlyle seem to have and the job they are doing with their young teams.

With notes from CP.

Do you think JVR might get a chance to play on the wing with Bozie and Kessel

I was looking at those drink ice luge things. They seem like a pretty cool way to pour a drink. (pun intended)

Maybe, but I think RC is intrigued with the combo that Kule-Grabo-JVR bring to the table.

Be interesting if the Leo-Naz-Fratts line can get the momentum and be the top scoring line tonight.

What is the thought process for Gardiner… a one game conditional stint today and recall for games next week? Depending on if he shakes the cob webs.

I’d leave him down there for a few games 3-5 or earlier if he seems to have his timing back

My advice to Kessel, Stop playing like Jason Blake for fucks sake!
Every time against the Islanders he goes wide and shoots into the goalies crest or gets the puck deflected over the glass.
Move into the scoring lanes and pick your corners, use your great speed to get open.
By the way your defensive game has really improved and your will to compete has grown 100%.

Used to make those all the time. All kinds of cool stuff you can do with it. (Used to use tubing to create a coil shape in one block top to bottom, then suspend that block over a second one. Put some food colouring in the vodka, or pick a booze with a dark colour-Jager-and pour the shot into the top of the one block, let it go down the coil inside the top block, and out the bottom and then down the face of the lower one. Or make two and do races) Definitely something everybody gets into, serious conversation piece. Set up one of those and a chocolate fountain and you’ll get people all over town crashing your nuptials.

I didn’t think about making it myself but thats not a bad idea. Most places seem to charge about $450 for one.

No, I got you I was just making a bad joke. As in “I used to go out for a night of drinking” but not anymore. I’ve slowed down a ton in mid 30′s, really don’t enjoy getting drunk anymore. Still love good booze though. Fine line indeed.

He is a lot more humble now. He realized he won’t get by on skill alone. Good for him. Candidate for player of the week?

All you have to do is find a flip top freezer with space and some time. Got to crank it up high so the ice freezes as solid as possible (everything goes off the rails when a crack through the block sends the booze onto the floor instead of running to the bottom) and leave it for as long as you can before you want to use it. My preference was to do it during winter and then place it on the back deck where it would take way longer to melt (also handy if someone takes too much and suddenly needs to send some back). Get a large rubber maid type container, fill it halfway to 2/3rds full, and set it on a tilt (one bottom side higher than the other)  in the bottom of the freezer to create a wedge shape when it freezes. Easy.

Too true, Kessel could have a few more points easy if his teammates could accept passes (or just not be totally surprised at them) and finish.
