Preview and GDT: Maple Leafs at Winnipeg Jets (8 p.m., LeafsTV)
Toronto Maple Leafs vs Winnipeg Jets
Share

The Maple Leafs, one of the league’s better road teams through five away games (4-1), will visit one of the loudest buildings in the league tonight, the acoustic MTS Centre, where the Jets are 3-1 this season and 26-14-5 since their return to Winnipeg.

Both teams have come as advertised through ten games, grinding it out around .500 on the edge of the playoff picture. With a win, the Jets would pass the Leafs according to my premature standings watch, so let’s hope the Leafers prevent that from happening.

The Jets will ice a line of Leaf castoffs Alexei Ponikarovsky, Nik Antropov, and Kyle Wellwood, who has enjoyed playing in a market where someone else takes the brunt of fat jokes. Wellwood had his best season in the league with the Jets last season, putting up 47 points, but has just one assist through seven games so far in 2013. Ponikarovsky has just one point as well in his nine games while Antropov has a goal and two assists in the same span. Please, Leafs, let’s keep it that way tonight.

The Leafs are fortunate to be facing a Buffy-less Jets team tonight, as Dustin Byfuglien has been his usual offensive force from the blueline but is currently out day to day with obesity.

James Reimer is back in net for the Leafs and gets the start in his hometown, which is nice and hopefully means he has himself a fine game.

I still can’t believe my stream cut out right before Frattin’s goal…

But the Leafs win, and Phil sniped his first. Nothing can ruin that.

even though we won, we still need to rid ourselves of the weak links.. being:
Macarthur, Bozak (to third line or gone), Kulemin, Liles, Holzer

Love him on the opposition’s blueline.. not so much in our own zone… seeing why Trotz shielded him so heavily w/ozone starts.

i thought the leafs played a great patient game, waited for their chances and made the best of what they got….sorry but i still think we’re more than enough ‘questionable penalities’ called to both teams…bordering on the comical

Gotta admit it was a physical game by both teams.  The Jets didn’t give this one away.  They came out hard and didn’t quit after the first period like I thought they would.  I really enjoyed this one.   I hope the boys will get some satisfaction out of it too.

Yeh….he needs work in his own zone..no doubt about that…but I think he can be a key contributor on the PP…I think if we’re patient with him and develope him we could have a very good player in a couple of years…

It’s a tough building to win in.  I’m glad the Leafs silenced the crowd.

Nobody has ever questioned Franson’s offensive ability….it was his D that was suspect.

Phil is from Wisconsin, but chose to play in MINNESOTA.  He got boo’d every time he touched the puck.

So when he scored he wanted to hear it.

FYI..Blake Wheeler and Kessel played together at MINNESOTA!
