The agent for Phil Kessel joined Greg Brady and Jim Lang to discuss the evolution of Kessel’s game, his mindset during the scoring drought and how the forward feels about playing in Toronto.

Said Wade Arnott:

“Phil (Kessel) is still a really young man,” Arnott told the SportsNet Fan590. “He really enjoys living in Toronto and playing for the Toronto Maple Leafs.”

“This young man lives and breathes hockey. He was very excited to come here four years ago. I think if you asked Phil today, he’d love to finish his career here in Toronto. But it’s still young in his career right now.”

“Phil would like nothing more than to help the Maple Leafs make the playoffs. He wants to experience playoff hockey here in Toronto,” said Arnott. “That’s the first step to winning a potential Stanley Cup here in Toronto.

“He was very disappointed last year. They had a very good start to the season. They were in a playoff position at the turn of the calendar year and unfortunately the last third of the season didn’t go well.”

The thing is I don’t feel the least bit sorry for the Sens.
The kid, sure….but not the fackin’ Sens
I’ll keep it simple for you guys that think this was intentional….find another piece of tape where Cooke did this before…or do u think he just got super lucky the first time?
I don’t like the guy,but he could do that play over a hundred more times and never cut his achilles…even with trying.
Stop buying into the Sens BS machine

Thank you. Like I said… People seem to forget what a rat this guys was. I dare anybody to watch the link below and tell me that Matt Cooke would never have the intent of injuring Karlsson the way he did.

looks can be decieving. He had his nuts on Karlssons right leg, its not hard to find his left ankle with his skate. No doubt in my mind he did it on purpose. He knows exactly what he’s doing, this is his only purpose in the game. Its why he should be banned. This shit doesnt happen anywhere else then when this guy is around, there is no coincidence.

wowwwww. how the eff is this not on purpose? gzuz. That angle shows exactly what his motive was. He wound up for five feet and planted it when he was stable.

if you watch his left knee hes riding it up his ass during the hit, he’s not off balance, he’s legit setting it up to plant his foot exactly where it landed.

Hey stat freaks. Read this article on O’Reilly. It talks about how he’s not a fluke and what he really brings to the table. One of the stats has him as 12th in the league in most passes to create a shot on goal. Tied with Datsyuk i believe. Anyway, enjoy.

So the next 5 games consist of

    Carolina
    Ottawa
    Florida
    Tampa
    Buffalo

These are all winnable games and we can potentially make a big move here . For that to happen Ben has to provide decent goal tending and some players who have not been scoring need to step it up . Grabo Kulie and MacA need to start finding the back of the net.

I grew up being a very dirty hockey player. For people who think how could someone intend to do that in such little time or in the moment, think again. You shouldn’t be surprised.

They don’t call them cheapshot artists for nothing. Just as a skilled or talented player can dazzle and make artistry with a puck, making last minute conscious manoeuvres, the dark side is that players like, Cooke, have the same keen abilities when it comes to harming another player and getting them off their game.

Cooke didn’t go into the game knowing he was going to slice Karlsson’s Achilles However, in the moment of riding Karlsson into the boards the way he did, he was conscious of where his skate was in the half-second, the moment, when seemingly removing himself from the encounter. Just like a skilled player always knows where the puck is on his stick the moment he releases it to make that unbelievable pass or goal.

The animal in Cooke was on and he chose to not relent or switch himself off in that moment. Hurt and no respect. Something we can never prove, but know deeply.

It parallels the same behaviour when you fall on top of an opposing player: you make sure all your your weight is on them. All your weight and more. Stay on them half a second longer before suspicion might get you in trouble or noticed more. You pretend to “struggle” to get up a bit as you know your opponent is in an uncompromising or awkward position, as you feign you are as well as a result. You’re absolutely in control. Your glove is in his face and as you finally decide to get up, you make sure you push off his face so he feels some hurt, your compete, fear, anger, hate -how you really feel feel about him – as you make his face squishes against the cold ice. The hard cold ice. You didn’t do anything though because you were all tangled up and just going through the motions. Struggling. Mind set on getting back in the play. Our mind isn’t as simple and innocent though.

All these decisions and feelings are in made in moments within seconds. It depends how vicious you want to be and how careless you want to be. How you’re able to live with, deny, and hide your actions. When the damage is done, good luck.

It didn’t bother me that people didn’t agree with me when I pointed this out last night; but the condescension in some of  their replies was a little hard to take. I think it’s just hard for some to believe that a person can be that black hearted.

Colorado lost another defenceman last night in Erik Johnson. The Leafs should aggresively go after O’rielly and shed some defence. Love to see Ranger an Gardiner  join the Leafs as well. Kessel has got a lot of class and a great playmaker also. Love watching him every game.

Cooke did not need to go as wide as he did, lift his leg as high as he did, and bring it down sideways the way he did. At minimum it is very reckless, but based on his past I believe he intended to injure to some degree. Players like that snap and then feel remorse after. I don’t believe him. I’ve played four sports at a high level and athletes more often than not if they’re not flying through the air are very very aware of their bodies. They have acute control of their limbs and are top level athletes for that reason.

You see guys go up for headers in soccer and throw the elbow to the nose, guys in football throw dirty crack blocks and say they stumbled. Remember when Suh clipped that guy in the nuts in the NFL game? It looked like he was tumbling and it wasn’t intentional/finishing off a play, but if you watch it a few times you will realize that he was trying to clip him with his foot. Players always feign ignorance, but they know what they are doing out there. Cooke is a dirty dirty player.
