The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed left-handed defenceman TJ Brennan to a 1-way, 1 year deal worth $600,000 dollars.
Brennan spent the majority of the 2012-13 season with the Rochester Americans in the American Hockey League, registering 35 points in 36 games.
The 24-year-old had one point in 10 games with the Buffalo Sabres before being traded to the Florida Panthers. With the Panthers, the Willingboro, N.J., native had nine points in 19 games.
Brennan was drafted by the Sabres in the second round (31st overall) in the 2007 NHL Draft.
Hey, this guy showed some offensive upside last year with Florida. He has a good point shot and I saw him play on the second power-play unii a couple of times. With a one-way deal, he won't get buried on the Marlies. Trouble is, Leafs already have Liles and Gardiner. I reckon he will be cheap insurance in case there are injuries.
way too much negativity.this is the best lineup we have had for years. I liked a lot of the things BB did as gm,including his entertaining personality.but I give Carlyle and nonis a thumbs up for the over all picture. good job boys
@Bobsyouruncle what are you smoking? This coach is the ONLY one who got this team to the playoffs in the last DECADE!
@Bobsyouruncle Are you a dumbasz, Carlyle took us to the playoffs when many fans and sport writers had us missing them for another year. Last season was some of the best leaf hockey i've seen in a long time, he turned us into a nasty team to play against.
is this what leafs were gunna be happy aboutt in the next 48 hours, i am not sold on clarkson fo r7 years but if thats what it takes so be it. I cant imagine any other team givin bozie a 5 year deal. I thought maybe reuppin boz for a year or 2 would be a failsafe/stopgap but this is a longterm gig at big money WTF
so who would you get to replace boz. and what would be the cost .. boz wasn't signing for two years ,
would clarkson sign for less than 7 years ?? peerhaps we should have passed on him.
so we would be with out boz and clarkson short 2 centres and a winger
@hometeem 4.2 is not big money it is deserved money. The guy plays on the top line, top penalty kill and I think works his ass off. Just use common sense here everyone, we got rid of Frattin, Grabo, Scrivens and Mac then brought in Clarkson, Bolland, Bernier, Colbourne , What would you rather have
@McDickey Do you mean Joe Colbourne or someone else, we already had Colbourne.
Remember he was to become an unrestricted free agent, the deal was made to go to toronto, he wanted these numbers, they worked on this deal 6 months prior to the trade. If he was resigned thats the number L.A. would have had to pay or lose him for nothing. Leaf fans better get used to what it takes to be a winner... YOU MUST CREATE COMPETITION FOR JOBS TO BE SUCCESSFUL....no more country club atmosphere, no more coddling of your faves, just because you like them.
@JMAC17 Maybe Nonis couldn't afford to engage in a prolonged negotiation for fear of an offer sheet.
@JMAC17 hes a 2.5 guy if they believe hes a true #1 and upgrade over reimer.
hes a 2.5mil guy? they obviously feel he is the future and 2.5mil for a young goalie who is either a #1 or 1A or 1B...solid signing
The Leafs are shooting up the Capgeek payroll charts quickly, moving up from #29 to #20 in less than 24 hours.
Also, side note, why are people putting Granberg in their lineups? Did I miss something where Leafs brass said he was ready to make the jump?
@Glove Dropper I read he was close......
@Glove Dropper Nonis prasied him and mentioned him in presser as a guy who could make jump
@Glove Dropper The Morrison bump someone told me. I believe he picked Gardnier and Kadri consecutively in the magazine alec puts out. I don't think it was in the same context, but I'm buying the annual just to see his pick this year
@Glove Dropper He played really good at the world championships, so that got some hype too. He might need some time to adjust to the NA ice, but I wouldn't be surprised to see him make the team out of camp or be up before the new year.
@Glove Dropper He was Swedens best Dman at the Worlds out playing Kronwall, he is a stud and is only 20 years old.
@-Keon- Spin much? I have a feeling if Burke had done this nonsense you would have been all over it.
@-Keon- Putting an unproven in is the last thing we should be doing at this point...
@-Keon- Sorry, it's just frustrating. Move after move is troubling in some aspect. Believe me, I don't like that I'm suddenly finding myself on the critical side...
@-Keon- Which doesn't make them right. This is most like Carlyle's opinions driving the boat, and we know he's been wrong on many players. He drove Andy McDonald, Chris Kunitz and Joffrey Lupul out of Anaheim. He pissed off Bobby Ryan, now Grabovski. I mean, these are some good players. The fact that our management doesn't have confidence in Reimer is worrying....
I intentionally stayed away today because I figured this place would be burning today. I'm pretty happy with what we did today. More than anything else, we are now able to slot players into places they fit. I do worry a bit about the 2nd line RW role. I'm sure many have done this already, but...
This is a big opportunity, I feel for Kulemin. I think he may have more offensive upside than Clarkson hence where I put them in the lineup. And look at the third line! It's ab absolute beast!!! The only other option I see for the second line would be a rookie to come in and take it...but I don't see anyone that might be ready to step up.
@rockydundas and Bozak slots in as a 1C?
@ShotgunCharlie @rockydundas Not really. I feel Lupul had good chemistry with Kadri last year and Bozak and Kessel have been good. If you don't look at it as Line 1, line 2, line 3, and look at it as balanced scoring through your top nine, it looks pretty good. That's a great continuous wave of players we can send over the boards!
@rockydundas Pretty sure Clarkson will be riding shotgun with Naz.
